General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAs expected, Mueller was of no help. So what's next?
Mueller told us so when he spoke out a few months ago and asked not to be called in front of congress. Realistic people "got it." (Actually, their was only one unquestionable/unsurprising fact that was confirmed yesterday. Louis Gohmert is one of the stupidest people to have ever existed on this planet.)
But here's the answer to "what's next?" The 2020 election. The future of the country, and perhaps the world, is riding on it.
Trump can't win. Period. But he and his Republican and Russian allies can steal it for him.
My guess is that the Democratic turnout will be massive. Will it be big enough to overcome "the theft?" It was big enough in 2008 and 2012. But none of us know how this will turn out. Afer all, the Republicans have had a decade to improve their "art of the theft." All we can do is vote in massive numbers, wait, and hope.
But it really comes down to this. Republicans steal the presidency and will do whatever they want to do, whenever they want to do it, and to whomever they want to do it to.
Or, the majority of us don't accept the theft. Civil War II begins? Who knows.
But one thing is for sure. Another four years of Trump and unrestrained Republican rule will spell the end of American democracy. How bad will it get? Figure it out. When concentration camps already exist, white supremacy and fascism has dropped it's mask, and unabashed racism is running rampant, where do you think America is heading? And what do you think it will look like after an additional four years of Trumpism?
I'm a devout agnostic. But what the hell could it hurt to utter some kind of "prayer" to whatever universal intelligence may exist? "Please, please, please don't let this happen."

And, in my spare time, I engage online in order to share my experience and expertise to help people better understand the legal and political process.
So, I'll ask again. What are YOU doing to try to stop the march toward fascism you expressed alarm about?

(18,486 posts)Do you have the time or inclination to get politically involved in your community? Even a few hours a week working to educate your neighbors, helping the local party with voter registration and engagement (or even just office stuff) or volunteering with a civic engagement or resistance organization would make a huge difference - and probably make you feel better about where we can go as a country.

(15,232 posts)After all, it will create jobs.
Working as camp guards will at least get us fed.
Rounding up the "undesirables" will create countless jobs.
Thousands of people will be assigned to make the trains run on time.
And who knows? There may become millions of military openings to help us fight off whatever is left of the civilized world.
Most people of conscience will have limited choices. Escape to who knows where. Stay and fight the horror to whatever degree possible. Commit suicide.

I know that many people believe that Mueller's testimony was sufficient. I must disagree. His testimony changed nothing.
If anything, the tons of shit Republicans hurled probably had more impact on Trump's base than we can possibly imagine.
As far as sane people are concerned, who did Mueller convince who really didn't need any more convincing?
underthematrix
(5,811 posts)the Mueller's testimony.
I found his testimony to be very revealing. First, he called #TraitorTrump a liar, a criminal and a traitor. Second, he revealed the FBI and other counterintelligence investigations are continuing and based on the context of the question, MAY involve HOW the Russian attack on 2016 US federal and state elections impacted the OUTCOME of those elections. Third, he revealed, the Russians are attacking our elections as he was sitting there testifying. This raises questions about the outcome of the 2018 Georgia and Florida governor's races, the outcome of the Texas senate race, and other senate and congressional races in the Midwest. Finally, Mueller stated under oath that the DOJ did not interfere with the Special Counsel's office. yet we also learned that it is Deputy Special counsel Zebley who handled the day to day operations of the office. it raised in my mind the possibility that Mueller would not know if DOJ interfered with his office.
I'm going to rewatch again so I can tweet about it.

This isn't about "truth." It's about "theater."
Mueller sucks at theater. Republicans are geniuses at peddling raw bullshit to the masses.

(9,400 posts)Their objective is to present a false narrative and make everybody think that yesterdays hearings were a nothing burger, and then get lots of democrats blaming our democratic leaders, and they are succeeding. The very best thing IMHO that democrats could do right now is stop listening to MSM right wing talking points and start pushing back on it at every opportunity. And, working like hell at getting out the truth and getting out the vote.
