"House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler pushed to launch impeachment proceedings

against President Donald Trump during a closed-door meeting Wednesday, only to be rebuffed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, according to four sources familiar with the discussions.

At a caucus meeting that came after the hotly anticipated testimony of former special counsel Robert Mueller, Nadler suggested that several House committee chiefs begin drafting articles of impeachment against Trump. Pelosi called the idea premature, the sources said."

We've seen this again and again. Pelosi is doing all she can to run out the clock on impeachment, IMO. She's putting party over country just like the other side does...Hate to say it but it's the truth.

1. What would it be like in this country if Trump wins in 20? And maybe he gets the house too...I

Vote him out ...don't risk impeachment when there is no hope of conviction...it is foolish. Nancy is correct. The Democratic Party is the only avenue to defeat Trump. Remember that.

4. Arguments have been made ad nauseum why a majority of

Dems, including myself, believe that a House Impeachment Inquiry could have advantageous benefits to 2020 election, not to mention it's the right thing to do.

Both actions, to impeach or not, have risks.

So we'll just agree to disagree.

However, the thrust of this article was about Speaker Pelosi shutting down, once again, going forward with impeachment. (For those against impeachment who imply Pelosi doesn't control her caucus...rightttttt)

12. What is advantageous about losing the house? We need to retake the Senate too...and those

are red or purple areas that 2020 election battle will be fought on...it is madness to impeach this close to an election .

16. You're assuming we would lose the House majority if we impeach. I don't agree that

is set in stone. An Impeachment Inquiry, if conducted effectively, could help us in the 2020 election.

Thus, we agree to disagree.

2. I wonder when Politico will start to cover the Republicans?

If Politico were your only source, you wouldn't even know Republicans were in office

5. I'm both disputing the story and questioning the motives.

The story itself is bs. It's obvious that the "source" either wasn't in the room or doesn't understand how the impeachment process works - and probably both.

For example, the impeachment process isn't started by "drafting articles of impeachment." Articles are drafted and voted on AFTER the inquiry. Every Member of Congress knows or should know that. Nadler definitely knows that. So the idea that he would suggest "that several House committee chiefs begin drafting articles of impeachment against Trump" in order to start the process is not only specious, it's laughable. That's the kind of frame that would be made by someone who doesn't understand the process - and anyone who was in the room in a position to leak what was said would understand the process and know that Nadler didn't say any such thing.

Moreover, even if the committees wanted to draft articles, perhaps as an internal document to frame or focus their investigations, they don't need Pelosi's permission and Pelosi couldn't stop them if they chose to do it. They can just do it as part of their regular committee processes - staff draft things all the time for committee consideration and don't ever need the Speaker's permission. This would be no different if the chair wanted them.

This story was "leaked," reported on and written by people who aren't directly involved in this but obviously have a spin they want to sell.

So, yes. I'm disputing the story.

7. You do realize this isn't the first time this has been reported, and not by Politico.

(that Speaker Pelosi shut down Nadler).

9. The fact that it's been reported before doesn't make it true

But the the specific instance you're referring to was reported by Politico yesterday and is bullshit.

6. I'm for impeachment hearings to begin but reject your portrayal of Pelosi putting party over country

She has never done anything but promote what's best for the country as best she can.

8. I've supported many of the actions Speaker Pelosi has taken over the years. However,

not this one at all.

Impeachment of Trump is obviously the right thing to do, per our Constitution. She fears she might lose seats in the House (her opinion) by taking such action.

That equals putting party over country.

10. Until that motivation comes from her lips you have no idea what motivates her

Your speculation is just that and doesn't warrant your conclusion, imo.

Please take the last word.

I stand by my conclusion.

13. She fears she might lose the house while Trump wins re-election...then he has it all ...the

courts, the House and the Senate...and that should terrify all of us because it could happen. We think because we hate Trump's guts everyone else does too...but that is not the case. The house was won by moderates who's seats are at risk if we impeach.

15. Pleased with today's action. Maybe Speaker Pelosi was influenced by all the pro-impeachment

Democrats emailing and writing her like I have numerous times!!!!!!

Now we wait and see whether this will lead to formal Article(s) of Impeachment.
