The good guy with a gun has been cited as an effective deterrent against firearm homicide, but has thus far failed to save any of the almost 300,000 Americans killed by firearms since 2000.
With yet another massacre taking place yesterday at a food festival in California, some Americans have started to wonder where the heck this good guy actually is and some lone, dissenting voices have begun to question if he even exists.

I know it is satire, but it is so close to the mark as to be factual reporting!

(50,557 posts)The bizarre fantasy that an untrained person can stop an active shooting situation with his very own gun should have ended on June 8, 2014. This is when Jerad and Amanda Miller (who got thrown off the Bundy Ranch for being too crazy) decided to start the revolution. They killed two police officers who were having lunch, then went to Walmart and ordered everyone out. A GGWAG pulled out his piece, went to confront Jerad, and was shot dead by Amanda.

(487 posts)The state of California makes it very difficult for the average citizen to obtain a concealed carry permit.
Claiming there was no good guy with a gun doesn't float in California where good guys aren't allowed to carry guns.
There are plenty of good guys with guns that are at least as skilled with their weapons as the average police person and are quite capable of taking down an active shooter.
Too many of these POS cowards attack places where guns are not allowed. I doubt if it is coincidence.
Do I think that we need to make some changes? You bet. It's a public health issue that requires some sensible legislation.
