Stocks close lower after Trump threatens more China tariffs

Stocks ended sharply lower Thursday, erasing a big surge from earlier in the day, after President Donald Trump said the U.S. will impose an additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports to the U.S.

The Dow closed 280 points lower after rallying as much as 311 points earlier in the day. The S&P 500 ended the session down 0.9% after rallying more than 1%. The Nasdaq finished down 0.8% after jumping more than 1.6%.

“Trade has always been an issue hanging over the market and whether or not we see an escalation, said Quincy Krosby, a chief market strategist at Prudential Financial. “The fact is we’ll surely get a reaction from Beijing.”

“There were concerns that after the [Federal Reserve] meeting and as earnings season began to wind down, the market would be more susceptible to volatility,” Krosby said.

The Dow dropped 600 points in minutes today. That is tens of billions of dollars of market value. A "savvy" investor can print their own money with such large moves. You will notice Trump does this again and again with no apparent reason. Each market disruption takes billions from regular people's savings and assets and transfers it to big traders. Notice that the "Big Players" are not making a fuss when he makes these "mistakes".

If you are a buy and hold investor, you just lost value. If you are a high speed trader, you just made out like a bandit. Again.
