Trump is so idiotic. He probably is trying to give himself some cover, but he's so stupid he goes with someone who is rather easy for reporters to check with.

He should say, "I know Frederick Douglass likes my China policy! He's someone people have been talking a lot about lately."

Googling about whether he supports tariffs brought up a lot of information and he does support them. I’m on my phone so it’s hard to post links but the info is easy to find.
