Jaws Drop Rachel Maddow Lays Out Mitch McConnells Economic Treason
Rachel Maddow explained how Mitch McConnell has allowed Russia to gain an economic foothold in the US so that they can influence US politics from within.
Mitch McConnell committed economic treason
Maddow said:
2020 what they did to it in 2016. No reason to expect 2020 is going to be any different. If Oleg Deripaska is one of the two or three oligarchs Putin looks to get his work done around the world, given what we know he did in 2016, should we expect Deripaska is going to be involved in Russias 2020 operations as well? You have to say the odds of that are better now than they were before Mitch Mcconnell sold off this corner of his state in his I mean, after all, before Mcconnell did what he did, Oleg Deripaska might have felt worried about participating in any Russian attack on us in 2020, right? He might have worried about those crippling sanctions that the U.S. Government put on him at least for a while after 2016. I mean, Mcconnell made sure those were gone, but maybe hed worry if he did more in 2020, he would get those sanctions back or hed be further sanctioned in his business activities. He might have had to worry about that before Mitch Mcconnell did what he did. But now, Oleg Deripaskas business activities, the health of his business empire, thats part and parcel of the hard-scrabble economy in one of Kentuckys neediest economies.
This is a plant thats over a billion dollars. 40% owned by the company of this kremlin-connect bed oligarch. Youre not going to be able to sanction him no matter what he does to our 2020 election or whatever else he does at all. It would strangle Kentucky in the process. There would be hundreds, if not thousands of American jobs riding on anything you did to that Russian guys company or, frankly, anything you did to bother him. He now holds all of those American jobs in his hand. The U.S. Government does anything to bother him, he can take them away at will. You cant do anything to his company, not without him exerting that leverage over Kentucky in response. And that damage has already been done.

McConnell did this to cement the relationship between Russia and the Republican Party. Republicans can now claim that Russian business interests, like the one in Kentucky, cant be sanctioned, because if they are, it will hurt American jobs.
If a future Democratic Congress and president would sanction a Russian oligarch with a business interest in the US, Republicans can use that to claim that Democrats are killing jobs. Moscow Mitch has gone beyond leaving the backdoor unlocked for Russia to interfere in US elections. He has rolled out the red carpet and given Putin a seat at the political table by inviting Russia in through the front door of the US economy.
McConnells actions are nothing less than economic treason.

If McConnell had an ounce of patriotism and brass balls, he would have made certain this deal was nixed, no matter what it cost him.

(4,986 posts)....the thing that was like a dagger through the heart for me was when she said that Deripaska has written to the governors of eight other states about building aluminum plants in their states.
Here is how it would play out for each of those states, as Rachel said, and cited above, "This is a plant thats over a billion dollars. 40% owned by the company of this kremlin-connected oligarch. Youre not going to be able to sanction him no matter what he does to our 2020 election or whatever else he does at all. It would strangle Kentucky in the process. (86,609 posts)think tourist towns and concessions in our national parks... foreigners have already got a major foothold in that industry and are manipulating the tiny towns they over take by buying up all the businesses. If it isn't the russians, it's the chinese, they pay cash and nobody complains when the money goes to them, their workforce get screwed in the end.

(28,120 posts)"What happens to this factory when Amy McGrath takes out Moscow Mitch?"
$200M is a cheap fix for selling out our country. This gov't should have already invested in the depressed areas of this country, as it did during the Roosevelt's and Kennedy's administrations. McConnell should've concentrated on getting that done, not taking money thru the Russians. To me, that's TREASON.
So, I could not answer my friend's question but I did write the following to Amy McGrath's campaign:
When you win this election,
1) What will you do to help rescue the depressed area of Kentucky financially?
2) Will you kill the deal Moscow Mitch made with Deripaska's company?
This is a big problem that must be overcome. Essentially, treasonous Mitch is buying votes of your fellow Kentuckians - while lining his own pockets! What can you do to guarantee their economic future? There must be a way, one that has no connections to Russia, to help these poor Kentuckians.
Sincerely,
Duppers, a very concerned American

I think this is also part of tRump's plan. He promised to bring coal jobs back to eastern KY. He can't do that, so he's substituting aluminum instead. Once again, he and Moscow Mitch trying to buy the vote, and getting help from the Russians.
Mitch and tRump are cut from the same cloth--they always come first.

Ronald Reagan or Senile Sam as my father always called him, HATED the Russians with a passion. For all of his gazillion faults, he would never kiss the Kremlin's collective ass unless those lips were attached to a hungry great white shark. Dolt45 and his party have super glued their Lips to Putin's crusty posterior.

tRump put thousands of employees out of work at his casinos. Thousands lost their jobs at Carrier in Indiana and Harley Davidson in Kansas, thanks to Rump. Thousands of jobs lost, no big deal. But Kentucky MAY get 650 jobs.

(93 posts)Going over new editorials today I think I'm seeing a shifting of gears; the attacks on Democratic candidates is getting much more personal, and much more sophisticated. And the election is how far away?
And another thing, and I can't be right about this, but does it seem that the republicans have found their "shining city on a hill", and it looks just like modern Russia--culturally and politically?
1. A popular dictator who changes the Constitution whenever necessary to stay in office.
2. An elite economic class totally integrated into the political structure.
3. A dominant church enforcing a conservative social order.
4. Women living in fear of violence from their husbands and boyfriends, because said church blesses the 'macho' man, and police who don't care if women are beaten or killed.
5. Suppression of opposing political parties.
6. Official propaganda news services; conflicting views attributed to 'people who hate our country'.
7. Murder of gays.
And the list goes on--for what hasn't happened yet, you don't have to look to far to find.
I hope I'm wrong.
