The American constitution fails to protect the country from "a trump"

We have an entire branch of government that is failing to execute their oath to protect and defend the constitution, yet they remain. I donít see how we ever get back to anything resembling normal now that republicans have allowed a lawless executive to run amok, lie, and cheat to obtain a desired result.

There isnít an ice cubes chance in hell we can amend the constitution in this climate.

1. Be careful what you ask for.

Calling a constitutional convention at this point could result in some changes we really, really don't want. The only major problem with the constitution as it is now is that it presumes that everyone will do what they are supposed to do.

2. Thats the only problem? Thats human nature...

If everyone did what they were suppose to then we wouldn't need laws or countries for that matter. I think there are a number of things in the constitution that need to be modernized. Say the 2nd amendment for example...

3. When any politician refuses to execute their oath they should be removed.

The fact that 1 man can keep legislation from moving through our government should be criminal in and of itself.

6. Of course, you could also amend the Constitution without a convention.

A constitutional convention, in which the entire Constitution would be up for revision or replacement, would almost certainly be the disaster you envision. The result would probably be a new constitution, enshrining and institutionalizing fascism and plutocracy.

Far better to simply put forth proposals for single amendments. But, like the OP, I see little chance of even the most reasonable and popular sort of amendment actually being passed and ratified. After all, the proposed Equal Rights Amendment, which very modestly proposes that women should have all legal rights apportioned to men, has languished for generations now.

4. The Constitution ain't worth the paper it is printed on when a creature

like drumpf holds the Presidential office. The founders never imagined the American people and voters would be stupid enough to elect a drumpf like person for the oval office. Their rigged electoral college voting system allowed this travesty to occur. Wait till the NEXT crazy rethuglicon runs for Presidential office now that they have seen what drumpf has gotten away with.

5. We also need equal representation.

How does a state with 4 million people have the same representation as a state with 40 million?
