So today was grocery day

The first house on my rural road is a crack house waving a giant confederate flag. I do not know these neighbors, nor do I want to.

Today is grocery day, so I drove into town .

There was a road crew working on the bridge. Two flagmen and two men working on the bridge. One black man and three hispanic/latino men.

The black man was holding a stop/slow sign...right in front of the house with the confederate flag.

When he stopped me, I waved him to my window. I said that I was sorry that he had to work in front of that hateful house and that most people on this hill didn't hate like that. He was polite and said a simple thank you.

I'm embarrassed and sick that these people had to be exposed to that shit.

How would you all respond and did I say the right thing?

I've been giving serious thought whether to stay or move to a more liberal/less hateful area.

i would think all the more so for a flagger. a truly boring job, dangerous, and thankless.

I cannot imagine standing out there in the heat, let alone under that flag...

I wish people could open their hearts and minds... And I hope I wasn't the only one who showed kindness/caring...

It didn't take anything away from my day to talk with him. I hope I wasn't the only person on my road to speak out..
