"SNIP.....
The Pentagon inspector general issued a report to Congress saying that the Islamic State is again growing in power in Syria and Iraq, with approximately 14,000 to 18,000 militants.
The report specifically said President Donald Trump's decision to rapidly draw down troops in Syria and pull diplomatic staff from Iraq increased instability and allowed the militants to regroup.
Former Special Presidential Envoy Brett McGurk, who resigned following the drawdown announcement, has repeatedly warned of this scenario, saying that Trump's policies would lead to chaos and "an environment for extremists to thrive."

(32,025 posts)The link is silent on that subject. Syria has completely taken back territory that the rebels had. Where are they in Iraq? And for that matter are we supposed to stay in Iraq FOREVER? Didn't Obama want to stop our combat operations in Iraq? Yes he did and rightfully so. We must leave these never ending Middle East wars.

(905 posts)Goes into great detail naming specific areas of insurgency (not to be confused with caliphate territory as your post implies).
That said, you'd be hard-pressed to find users on this site advocating endless involvement in Middle East wars.
What you will find, however, are trolls who endlessly point to Obama when their cult leader Rump once again proves to be an ineffective ignoramus with anything and everything he touches.

(32,025 posts)There is no link to the report in either the OP or at the link in the OP. Furthermore the link, "Business Insider", is just a rewrite of a Wall Street Journal article.
You seem to be selective on what threads you read. Whenever there is a thread about a draw down in Afghanistan there are plenty of posters who list all the horrible things that will happen if we leave Afghanistan. The same with Iraq and Syria. My question always is "How long do you want to stay?" Always silence as a response...

(32,025 posts)The article REFERENCES the WSJ as giving the information about the report but it does not link to the WSJ (which has a paywall anyway).

Previous post deleted for calling out attack on Obama for what it is.
In answer to your question, "How do I know what the Pentagon report says?":
Duh, I read it. Duh, I know how to look up public-sourced government documents from multiple sources.
More pertinent question is: How do you not know what it says?
Also, YOUR PERSONAL ATTACK against me, which reads, "YOU seem to be selective about which threads YOU read" appears to be in violation of DU rules prohibiting flaming and the assignment of ulterior motives to fellow members.
Please explain. What threads am I "reading" that you're claiming to have an inside track on knowing? Do you have a bug on my computer? Isn't that illegal?
Also, isn't it against DU rules to claim another member has supposedly taken a stance on a topic that they've never said a single word about on this site or anywhere on the entire Internet, for that matter? Shouldn't the moderator be looking into that?
As I said previously, I was an activist against Reagan's Iran-Contra affair and the Bush family/Darth Cheney illegal occupation of Iraq long before the Internet finally made it into a preponderance of homes. Never thought we should have been in the Middle East in the first place.
So, why are you trying to make me out to be the exact opposite? Because I pointed out where you can find the information you so stridently claimed did not exist? Seems more like division for division's sake to me.

(12,870 posts)Trump is an incompetent egomaniac and a Russian asset, but we can't stay in Iraq forever. Same goes for Afghanistan. The people who live in those countries are going to have to work things out for themselves. We can't manage our own country, let alone theirs.

(15,805 posts)Trump's so insanely jealous of everything Obama did that he is willing to wreak havoc and destroy anything that Obama did.
He's so shortsighted and only concerned with his own ego that he doesn't care about the consequences of his petty revenge.
More proof that everything Trump touches dies.

Brett McGurk, who I do not know, was appointed by President Obama in 2015. Was supposed to leave in February but he just resigned prior to leaving. Grandstander? The Fake News is making such a big deal about this nothing event!
