Lost opportunity cost, so he claims! What B.S.!
Probably saved him from declaring a few more bankruptcies.

This means he is making BIG money off of the office of the presidency.

That would be more than 20% annually. If he could really do that, given the inheritance, he'd be worth more than Bezos.
And, he's not.

(118,295 posts)prominently on buildings and products that he may not actually own or be liable for has reportedly taken a massive hit. Forbes estimates Trumps licensing operation is now valued around $3 million, down sharply from the $23 million estimate Forbes made in 2015. Brands such as Serta and Macys separated from their licensing agreements with Trump shortly after some of his most incendiary comments on the campaign trail." https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/02/trump-forbes-400-spot-tumbles-as-net-worth-declines.html

(14,974 posts)and I believe he once claimed it to be worth ~$5B (of his alleged ~$10B). Perhaps he is subconsciously admitting something he will never say aloud, or consciously admit to himself: once he's not POTUS, the "Trump" brand is f-ing toast.
Already many of the Trump-branded buildings have dropped his name. Already his kids have tried to do real estate development deals with new brand names ("Scion" was one). His golf clubs and such initially saw a bunch of people trying to buy memberships to buy influence, but the minute he isn't POTUS, especially if the GOP also gets creamed in Congress again (fingers crossed/knock on wood), that legal-bribery will dry up and yet the stink will remain. Every surviving GOPer will run away from Trump, like they did with GWB (not so much in the 2008 cycle, though they did a bit, but very much in 2010 and beyond). And with that flight of the cowards comes a loss of interest in legalized bribery/buying influence from Trump -- because it is not his to sell.
What influence is Trump going to have in a hypothetical 2021 GOP which is minority in both houses and doesn't have the White House? Absolutely nothing worth bribing over.
