A simple retraction, regrets, then he moved on. I didn't time it but I bet it was under one minute. Handled well, all things considered. I'm sure he did exactly what MSNBC's attorneys said he had to do.
But I'd be willing to bet we haven't heard the last of this story.

(53,410 posts)More corroboration to the story. He didnt apologize for what he said. He apologized for saying it before it was corroborated more.

(53,410 posts)His source is probably more than credible. He isnt the one who has gotten duped.

(692 posts)We're all speculating here. And my theory is that LOD got duped.
Your theory that LOD's "source is probably more than credible" is pure speculation on your part!

(53,410 posts)Telling the truth and the facts is not an opinion.
But if you are going to have an opinion worth anything you should base it on what actually happened.
What youre apparently doing is discrediting.

(14,332 posts)but the indisputable fact is that the story didnt go through the rigorous vetting process. One source is not enough, and he shouldnt have aired it without corroboration from an independent source.
But thats how you know youre watching real news: they admit when they make a mistake, or in this case jump the gun.
Im betting well find out later its true.

(26,045 posts)The threats from Eric to sue are probably (although not certainly) baseless, but you can count on a full-court press from 45 and his lackeys claiming that no apology is sufficient and that, unless MSNBC fires O'Donnell, it "proves" that theyre "enemies of the people" who will circulate bald-faced lies to bring down Republicans by any means, fair or foul. And, if they do fire O'Donnell (or shift him to a "less-visible position" a la Dan Rather), it will be held up as proof that MSNBC knows they got caught red-handed. In any event, expect this to be brought up for as long as Trump remains in office as Exhibit A about "the lying news media."

(6,807 posts)First, it is probably true. Second, a tRump threatening to sue is their usual boring mantra. Used to work because it frightened people. Dont think too many care what Eric says, does, or thinks.

(9,472 posts)an untrue statement, just that it could not be verified by multiple sources as being true. Am I wrong?
Lock him up.
(6,941 posts)The plus side is, it will put further incentives for Nadler and Schiff, not to mention judges, to get all DB's documents & tax forms of the Trump mafia.

(6,941 posts)The last thing the orange mob boss wants (or needs, since he's trailing "bigly" in all the polls out of the states he HAS to win, and against ALL Dems in the race) is to keep shinning a light on that topic. There would never have been a lawsuit because it would mandate a discovery phase.
That's the job of the House committees to inquire all DB's docs on the Trump mafia.

(6,916 posts)He still has one source. He didnt retract the info. Just said he shouldnt have reported based on one source.
RockRaven
(15,012 posts)Last night he stated all the appropriate caveats about the source/information and the limits thereof. For all of Trump's lawyers' bluster, there was nothing actionable there (that they would *win* anyhow; anyone can *bring* any kind of lawsuit of course).
It is a separate question whether reporting unnamed single-sourced, unconfirmed information is the best use of his airtime. It is not, and he should not do it. Acknowledging that having done so was in error was probably appropriate, if that was indeed what he did tonight.

(33,207 posts)Parking garage. These documents will outline the whole sordid story of the Republican crimes of this administration.
An article will appear on page A26 of some newspaper which almost nobody will read.
Very much like Iran Contra or Nixon's interference in the Vietnam War.
The Status Quo will march ignorantly on. Nothing will be learned and nobody will be saved.
This is how the world works and how criminals go free.
