Dem On The House Judiciary Committee Predicts Impeachment Votes By The End Of 2019

Dem On The House Judiciary Committee Predicts Impeachment Votes By The End Of 2019

A Democrat on the powerful House Judiciary Committee said on Tuesday that her committee is “moving towards” votes on articles of impeachment by the end of this year.

Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, the vice chair of the committee, told MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki that they are looking into “various allegations of potentially impeachable conduct.” She predicted that impeachment votes will happen before 2019 concludes.

“I think that’s what we’re moving towards,” she said.

The exchange:

STEVE KORNACKI: Jerry Nadler said he anticipates votes by the end of the year. Is that still the plan? Do you think there will be votes from the House Judiciary Committee on specific articles of impeachment by the end of this calendar year?

REP. SCANLON: I think that’s what we’re moving towards. I think we’re trying to do an investigation into the various allegations of potentially impeachable conduct and I would think that the president would support putting forward evidence that could clear him or not.

Democrats are quietly exercising oversight of Trump

With the Democratic primary campaign heating up and other Trump chaos stealing the attention in recent months, talk of impeachment has faded. It’s likely the reason why just 35 percent of the country currently supports removing the president from office via impeachment.

But while the news cycle may change, what Democrats are doing behind the scenes has remained consistent. They continue to conduct key oversight of Trump through various committee investigations and court proceedings.

It’s not a particularly sexy process, but that could end up being a good thing for those who truly want to see this president held accountable for the storm of corruption that surrounds him.

If anything, the lack of fanfare surrounding the Democrats’ work could only boost its credibility as it looks less like a political exercise and more of a genuine attempt by various House committees to do their jobs.

It doesn't matter if there aren't enough votes in the Senate to convict Trump. That should not be the measure of the House's investigations. If Trump has committed high crimes and misdemeanors, he should be indicted by an impeachment vote.

Even if he isn't removed, Trump will be exposed and labeled as an impeached president.

My personal (and unsupported) opinion is that when the House committees start publicly uncovering Trump's criminality, the country-- and thus the Senate-- will turn against him. Should the House impeach Trump, I think there's a very good chance the Senate could convict. After all, many Republicans are sick of Trump, too. They may see removal as the only way to protect themselves from the voters next Fall.

on everything except removal by the Senate. The GOP is going to continue to "dance with the one that brung'em."

No matter how much the country turns on The "Esteemed" Mr. Trump. The GOP Senate will do everything possible to block his removal from office.

The trumpsters are fully aware of it, and will do whatever it takes to get the 'Impeachment Now' Dems into even more of a frenzy.

corrupt, commie party trying to destroy democracy, our attempt to illegally remove an elected president proof? You know, the usual: Blamed for all the crimes the Republicans commit?

Okay if, as is the state now, a majority of Americans believed it, from a confused minor degree to calling-for-pitchforks passionate -- God bless McConnell for saving America!!!!

People pouring out to vote for Trump, McConnell, restoration of the Republican house and seizure of several more state governments also can't happen soon enough?

Because not for a single additional moment should anyone imagine all our enemies foreign and domestic, including those embedded in and running most of our major media, wouldn't be throwing everything they have into turning America into a red, white, and Christian kleptocracy in 2020.

We act when we know we can WIN, not when our enemies are encouraging people to demand a rush to defeat.

I hope so much that we can force the Republicans in the senate or cabinet to remove Trump this fall, or after, but if our victory has to wait for the people November after next, that's just the way it has to be. After all, it was the people who put our democracy in danger and are keeping it there.

instead of determined to win. All those who insist on winning are.

Triron, nobody agitating on these threads knows HOW to win.

"Thus it is that in war the victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won, whereas he who is destined to defeat first fights and afterwards looks for victory."

Sun Tzu, of course, but he would have been many thousands of years too late to be the first to express that reality. Winning was the only option for him.

If your opponent is of choleric temperament, seek to irritate him. Ol' Sun 2500 years before cyber warfare.

Which makes all of the "Why won't the Democrats impeach?" handwringing pretty puzzling.
