the American Military is in collusion with the Dump Inc. Criminal Syndicate. Does that mean he has the military in his pocket? When the time comes whose side will they be on? The Pentagon is Refusing to cooperate.
Jesus H Christ, are you ready yet Nancy?

(6,831 posts)It has nothing to do with being "allowed" or that Scotland is an ally.
It is NOT business as usual for military aircraft to land at civilian airports, short of declaring an emergency. This particular flight was transporting supplies between the US and Kuwait. Not exactly in the neighborhood of Scotland. There are at least 8 military installations capable of handling a C-17 at which it could have re-fueled in between those points. Plus the C-17 is capable of inflight refueling.
The Globemaster III is not the biggest airplane in the Air Force fleet, as it's primary mission as a cargo plane is to drop supplies to components on the ground, but it is not small. It is powered by 4 big Pratt and Whitney engines and has a range of 4700 nm.
The fact that this plane flew from Kuwait to Prestwick (which is 30 miles from Glasgow), instead of from, oh, say, Bagram AFB to the US, stretches the imagination for rational. Additionally, fuel costs at military bases instead of civilian airports are achieved at a substantial savings instead of the $11 million that these flights have cost the US taxpayer.
Once again, trump is abusing his power to enrich his wallet at YOUR expense. There is NO sound, tactical reason for that C-17 to have flown back to the US via Scotland.

(18,486 posts)I often flew overseas on military and non-military government aircraft (including on a C-17 - yuck). The non-military government planes always refueled at civilian airports. But the military planes NEVER did - we always refueled at military bases. And, whether military or non-military, we always took the shortest route possible in order to save on gas and to reduce the need to refuel.
This stinks to high heaven ...

(18,486 posts)The funny thing is that I had a business class commercial ticket but the C-17 was leaving later and arriving earlier AND I was told they were putting a 747 comfort pallet on it so I said, Sure! But when I got to the airport, they told me "Whoops. We couldn't get the comfort pack here in time, so ... " and I flew a gazillion hours overseas in a web seat in that godawful cargo hauler. And when I got up to go to the bathroom, somebody stole my pillow. But my Jimmy Dean box lunch was kind of tasty ...

Did you fly C-17s a lot? Are you in the military?

Back when I was in (when we still used muskets), you could take flights home/back between bases close to home, if there was room. ONE time of a C-17 and a few others - almost always in web seats - has given my butt permanent polytrauma. Seriously, I can only sit on a plane for about an hour before I MUST stand up and wiggle around, and it's been decades.
Just the thought right now has got me squirming.

(6,831 posts)There are few birds as uncomfortable as a C-130.
Loud, painful flights. And you couldn't sleep on them either. Too much jostling around. Engines too loud in your ears. And forget getting up to go to the head. We all remember the old joke about not peeing on your hands . . . well, it you DIDN'T pee on your hands, you must still be on the tarmac as you could barely stand in one of those old cans.

(23,339 posts)From west Texas to Georgia, leather seats that reclined, sweet ride for an Army E-2. Most of the Air Force rides I caught involved web seats, no windows, staring at cargo. But, hey, the flights were free.

(10,303 posts)Globemaster III from Wiki says 2499 meters runway to take off... RAF Lossiemouth's runway is 2846 meters, more than enough. So runway space isn't the argument here (Prestwicks runway is 140 meters longer) and if that really was a problem then London Heathrow has the British Isles longest runway.
Definitely weird.

(108,977 posts)is very unusual and very expensive. So is sending military personnel to spend the night at the resort instead of a military base.
But it's helping to keep Trump's resort's closest little airport in the black, and that's the point.

(10,952 posts)If they can hand over millions of dollars from their construction/repair budget to help build a vanity wall:
1. The Pentagon obviously does not care about the men/women who serve
2. Have been given too much money if they aren't going to use it for the intendedpurpose.
If the Air Force can afford to waste their fuel budget on a public airport and put up airmen in a Trump Resort "
1. They don't care about the airmen who don't have a per diem that will allow them to eat at said Trump property without being out additional personal funds
2. Need to have their budge whacked back.
I am a Certified Procurement Officer in the public sector and the crap that goes on under 45's administration drives me crazy. He litterly is turning this country into a banana republic lead by a tin horn dicator wanna be. To re-paraphrase Grover Norquist, I want the Republican Party shrunk down to a size small enough to flush down a toilet. Forget drowning them in a bathtube. Send them straight to the sewer. They are evil incarnate for putting party before country and sucking up to Trump to the extreme detriment of this country.

What is really going on? I wouldn't think Trump would allow letting himself appear a total idiot in order to line his pockets. There's a bigger deal going on here, and that is Really Frightening!

(127 posts)Did not lie about anything. The suck-up trump appointees at NOAA did, on an un-signed statement. NOAA is under Dept of Commerce, headed by another trump appointee, wilbur ross. NWS meteorologists continue to forecast, concerning themselves with public safety during hurricane season, which is just getting started. Meanwhile, with all the crap trump pulls on a daily basis, ask yourselves,, "Where in all that does the business of the American people get done?".

The ONLY way we'll get past Trump is not to rely on the military or civil service, as they seem to fall in line because Trump is so utterly shameless.
