We have time. Maybe even best to wait until we get the Senate back. WE impeach him in the House and then WE convict him in the Senate. There is no time limit, no rush since he is there for a looooong time. I prefer we want until we can go all the way to his removal. And allow a Democratic president to replace his ass.

(6,916 posts)And we do have time.
In 2021, Pres Liz Warren can expand the Supreme Court by two justices, needing only 51 votes in the Senate.

(10,252 posts)His confirmation was a complete sham. He lied to the Senate. Plus the DOJ "investigation" was corrupted. He needs to be made an example.
Justice Weenie-Waver -- we gotta make that stick.
Scarsdale
(9,426 posts)to get him on the Supreme Court. He got his mortgage (over $1 million) paid, credit card debt over $200,000 other debts were paid, too. Why him? Surely there were plenty of DECENT people who could have qualified for the position, without all that uproar? Now he will live off taxpayers for the rest of his life. The quality of the candidates for the SC has been tarnished forever after this fiasco.

And I agree with your op. We can't let this drop off the radar, but we do have pressing issues on our plate now. Let's take our time and do this right.

(25,472 posts)It's the same process as removing the president. While I wholeheartedly agree that he needs to go, I don't see the votes, even if we make big gains in the Senate in 2020.
AdamGG
(1,292 posts)And, the fact that he waved his dick around in college isn't as impeachable as the partisan stuff he did hacking Patrick Leahy's documents.
Tiggeroshii
(11,088 posts)We would need a net gain of 20. There are 23 GOP held seats up. Winning 20 of those would give us 67.
AdamGG
(1,292 posts)There's 4 seats we can maybe pick up (AZ, CO, IA, ME), but that's the max. Wyoming, Idaho, Oklahoma aren't going Democratic any time soon.
Tiggeroshii
(11,088 posts)But if we did as well with this map in 2020 as we did in 2008, we would already be 4 away from 67. Long shot? Yes. Physically impossible? No.

(3,678 posts)No offense, but the unlikely possibility we will get to him... later... isn't very comforting.
We're already dealing with that with Trump. "History will judge him harshly." Zzz

(11,088 posts)I dont think this is impossible, but certainly will be quite difficult.
Polybius
(15,437 posts)Unless you mean by 2022 or 2024.
Tiggeroshii
(11,088 posts)So technically i think it is possible, but obviously very unlikely.
Polybius
(15,437 posts)So of those 35 we would have to go like 27-8. So yeah possible but better chance of winning a he lotto two weeks in a row. Many safe republican seats are up.
Tiggeroshii
(11,088 posts)Depending on how popular trump is at that point, I put our chances at between 1 and 500 and 1 and 1000.
Also this is the same map we won 8 seats in 2008. McCain wasnt close to unpopular as trump could be come election day.
Polybius
(15,437 posts)There are 23 Republicans defending seats. We need to win 20 of those 23, and then win all of our own seats that we're defending. Yikes.
Tiggeroshii
(11,088 posts)But I'm dreaming here: If we won all the seats that we won in 2008 +Arizona and Maine that look likely already (+11) plus all of the well funded races we will likely have in Texas, Georgia(2), Kentucky, Tennessee, Nebraska, Sourth Carolina, well.. even in that unlikely scenario we get only 18: Still 2 short. Which would make it so we would only need to flip 2 republicans for impeachment. Meh. I'll keep dreaming!! Forget about a blue wave.. this would be like a blue asteroid.

If we do just as well, we will win 63 seats. If we do just a little better, getting just 4 more than 2008, we win 67.
Polybius
(15,437 posts)The 2008 Senate election that you mentioned only had a net gain of 8 seats (which is still huge) for the Democrats. Winning 16 of 35 is irrelevant, as there are a different number of Republicans and Democrats every cycle.
We need a net gain of 20 seats in 2020 to get to 67. Winning 20 out of 35 isn't even close to being the same. We would have to go 32-3 to get to 67 Dems. Let that sink in for a moment. If we were to go 35-0, we would net gain 23, since there are 23 Republicans defending seats out of the 35 that are up. Never in the history of the country has a Party netted 20 seats.
Absolute best we can hope for is net gain of 8 again, which is good for 55 seats.
Tiggeroshii

(1,059 posts)she has become the social darling of the right-wing--a reopening of the original hearing ----prompted by a few Senators------like Kamela Harris---could lead the way a press coverage that would embarrass the Thomas' ----as they should be-----and under the right amount of that pressure --he would step down ----under the guise of retirement -----would DU members support an appointment of Anita Hill to SCOTUS ------no need to bandy it about ----just the meme is enough to get Ginny fired up---I like to call her Gin&Tonic Ginny because of her playing the PHONE RANGER in a late-night call to Anita Hill-----which was recorded on the campus security system
Her lobbying activities have occasionally been raised as a potential source of conflict of interest for her husband. Luring her in to the fan fare should be easy and the new members of Congress could play a key role-----we can turn back the clock------

Even if we win the Senate back, they wont be seated in time to impeach Trump if hes on his way out.
