26. The reasonable side of me wants to believe that...

House Democrats haven't impeached Trump already because they're either A) hoping that extended hearings leading up to the election will sway undecided voters into ousting Trump in 2020, or B) hoping that extended hearings will build pressure on the Senate to vote to remove Trump in an impeachment trial.

The cynical side of me is starting to believe that House Democratic leadership has no intention of impeaching Trump despite the high crimes and misdemeanors that have been in plain view for months (obstruction, violation of the emoluments clause, violating campaign finance law, abuse of power, etc., etc.). And, that the only reason for these hearings is to placate those of us who demand they do their jobs.

they're still gathering evidence. There's little point in issuing articles of impeachment before all the available information is obtained. That's what the hearings, subpoenas, and requests for documents are for.

They have one shot at this. They should probably make it count.
