Congressional procrastination has probably emboldened Trump, and it risks emboldening future presidents who might turn out to be of his sorry ilk. To borrow John Deans haunting Watergate-era metaphor once again, there is a cancer on the presidency, and cancers, if not removed, only grow. Congress bears the duty to use the tools provided by the Constitution to remove that cancer now, before its too late. As Elbridge Gerry put it at the 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, A good magistrate will not fear [impeachments]. A bad one ought to be kept in fear of them. By now, Congress should know which one Trump is.

The lawlessness of this regime is increasing.

(9,426 posts)convinced the gop to make a pact. Once the WH was in (R) control, they will fight to the bitter end to keep it. Why else would these supposedly patriotic representatives all band together to protect a criminal? tRump is so obviously damaged, unlawful, ignorant and law breaking. If he were a (D) president the articles of impeachment would have been ready BEFORE the inauguration, waiting for the very first slip-up. As it stands, tRump breaks the law on a daily basis, and the clowns in the gop support everything he does no matter how stupid it makes them look. They do not represent their constituents, they represent gop power. Don't they see how very ignorant they look, defending the indefensible?

(16,160 posts)effing words now! It is almost already too late re: the election. To do otherwise is dereliction of duty.
We are talking about two simple, clear and powerful words that make all the difference in the world in terms of Constitutional authority and execution of moral responsibility. We are talking about inquiry an investigation, a Congressional investigation that is preparatory, prerequisite, part and parcel to and carries the full weight of actual impeachment. Stop beating around the bush and do your duty Congress! Use the words and execute!
