(4,006 posts)Now that the dam has irretrievably broken, lots of folks are coming forward with grim tales of Trump's so, so many lies, fabrications, law breaking endeavors and more! Geez, it is hard to keep up with the indictable offenses as they keep pouring out in droves.
Could not happen to a more deserving asshole!

(9,263 posts)a subpoena. Really why isn't this being done? You don't have to be convicted of a crime to be disbarred

(26,731 posts)Lawyers contest subpoenas all the time.
If someone ignored a subpoena and the House took them to court... and then the court enforced the subpoena... then you could lose your license for failing to comply with a court order.

(9,263 posts)whole point here.

(26,731 posts)They just haven't resulted in any rulings yet... which is why Democrats are trying to avoid them in this case. They can't wait several months for the fight to work through the courts. Instead, they're just insisting on document production with the threat that refusal to do so will be considered as obstruction and result in another potential impeachment count.
But the misunderstanding here is the difference between subpoenas related to civil/criminal court cases, and those from Congress to a co-equal branch of government. In the former, the executive branch (prosecutors) have received permission from the judicial branch to force you to show up in court (or product documents, etc.). BUT the judicial branch recognizes that you haven't had an opportunity to give your side, so you can go to the judge and ask that the subpoena be "quashed". You're basically appealing the court's decision to approve the prosecutors' request. Absent that appeal, the subpoena is presumed to be valid and you can't ignore it.
Congressional subpoenas are different. They aren't pre-vetted by a judge. Their presumed validity is further damaged when the subpoena targets the executive branch. If a conflict ensues, the most common path is for the target of the subpoena to refuse to comply - which forces Congress to take the matter to court. Such matters usually end up with a negotiated agreement between the two branches, because neither is certain who would win in court.

(2,267 posts)Barr stated he did not know that telling someone to lie under oath was a crime.
He should have been disbarred at that very moment -- either he did not know the law or lied under oath.
Suborning perjury is covered in the first legal ethics class in law school.
This is far too little and far too late.
Unless he ends up cuffed and stuffed in a police car and then placed in general population in prison, it will never be enough.

(7,220 posts)He never should have been confirmed in the first place; he's so clearly Trump's toady, running around the globe doing his bidding to get dirt on a political opponent.

(10,869 posts)I know a number of people who are attorneys by trade, and everyone of them is honest and strives to meet the intent of all guidance pertaining to ethics in law. Billy Barr is a different kind of animal- he is paid by all taxpayers, yet he acts as the personal attorney to the SCROTUS. (So Called Ruler Of The United States)
He should be locked up in a small cage on the Southern border for the rest of his unnatural life. Maybe even a few more years for good measure. Then his carcass should be shipped to Russia for disposal.
