I would strongly suggest that, in the event of Impeachment, that GOP senators be encouraged to refuse to attend as a protest against the sham of a travesty or a witch hunt, or whatever.
Some of them might miss their flights, oversleep... who knows.

(1,803 posts)Article I, section 5 of the Constitution requires that a quorum (51 senators) be present for the Senate to conduct business. Often, fewer than 51 senators are present on the floor, but the Senate presumes a quorum unless a roll call vote or quorum call suggests otherwise

I like the idea that the Senate could hold the impeachment trial and then vote in secret. You know that the majority of the Republicans would vote to convict if they didn't have to own their votes.

(6,254 posts)knowledge but I would guess there is no precedent for excluding a member of the Senate from sitting as a juror in an impeachment proceeding. I wonder if before the trial begins the senators have to take an oath beyond their original oath.
