I happen to agree with that strategy, if one assumes that you only have one shot at this. But, I also propose another scenario: Do both. Draw up articles of impeachment on the narrow case of Ukraine, but dont close the impeachment inquiry. Keep it open and ready to draw up more articles as new corruption is uncovered. Impeach Trump repeatedly if necessary.
There is nothing in the Constitution that prevents a president from being impeached more than once.

(5,754 posts)There are 6 Congressional Committees investigating Trump. There should be 6 separate sets of articles, each focusing on the findings of one of the committees.

(10,721 posts)There's no reason why we can't impeach him multiple times.
I suppose one could argue that multiple acquittals would backfire on us. But I worry about the precedent that will be set if we ignore a dozen or more impeachable offenses.

(9,897 posts)The Democratic Party needs to stop being so goddamn timid and afraid of everything.
It stinks of weakness and more than any policy, proposal or position, the non-registered Democrats of this country whose vote CAN be swung operate on a very visceral level. They widely support the "winning" candidates in the end, just so they can feel good about voting for the winning "team" or they are capricious and won't make up their mind in 2020 until they step into the voting booth anyway...by then, if you REALLY think multiple impeachments would register as a negative, you're giving them waaaaay too long a memory.

(4,490 posts)Though some crimes may take longer to unravel than others. Still have to have something prepared should he manage to steal another election. He stays in after 2020 elections, and we're basically in hail mary mode, imo.
