His older brother Fred Jr died of alcoholism-related issues. He has spoken derisively about Fred Jr in relation to his death. Again, make of that what you will.

There are lots of reports of cocaine at Trump parties in the 80s etc.

But Donald Trump is an inveterate liar who often tells unnecessarily specific lies. And he has a tendency towards making absolute statements ("always" and "never" and "perfect" and "best" and "worst" ) which do not comport with reality. His presidency has been full of such "revealing too much through denial" statements in other circumstances.

Trump has said, and I quote: "I've never had a drink" and despite that statement, there are many publicly available images which say otherwise, unless he's spent decades trying to hide his teetotaler-self under an elaborate ruse of appearing to imbibe, specifically *appearing to imbibe in public when photographers are present*. Is it possibly true that he's a teetotaler? Sure, but almost anything is possibly true. But what's the most likely explanation? I'd go with "for almost entirely internal reasons, Trump is lying."
