How do we rid ourselves of a madman in the White House?

Impeachment doesn't cover it when the president's party won't act.

The 25th Amendment doesn't cover it when the president's cabinet won't act.

Once this creature is gone, we need another mechanism to remove a madman.

And no, a blowjob doesn't define a madman, but the Republican Party will define it as such.

So how do we put in place a method of removing a madman?

As long as one of our national parties, the Republican Party, is run by criminals, we're fucked.

But somehow, someway, someday, we must find a way to remove a madman from power.

necessarily be a good idea. You don’t want some redneck DA in bumfuck Mississippi indicting a Democrat for “killing babies” or something equally as absurd. Ya know, you got me thinking now that maybe my idea ain’t that great after all...

6. Take Texas AG Paxton

He went after Planned Parenthood on the basis of the doctored videos.

There are any number of state prosecutors who would gleefully have gone after Barack Obama or, for that matter, Abraham Lincoln.

It may be that the concept needs some fine tuning.

Responding to the original post: The Thuglican oligarchs who run this country won’t allow it. Anything that gives the impression they’ve had to capitulate to Democrats won’t happen.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

In general, madman removal schemes break on the question of "Who determines who is a madman?"

A while back there was this notion of having a psychologist decide, on behalf of the entire country, who should be allowed to run for president and who should not.

Show me the process for appointing that psychologist, or group of them, and I will show you how to install yet another madman and keep sane people out.

8. Perhaps there's a way we can keep politics out of it

Maybe, just maybe, a law can be passed that any president who commits certain acts shall automatically be removed from office.

What acts? Damn. I guess that brings us full circle to decisions made by politicians.

A film that comes to mind is "Contact." The main character is asked what question would she put to hypothetical, benevolent aliens she may encounter. Her answer is, "How did you survive your adolescence?"

IMO, given all of human history, we humans won't survive our adolescence.

Hope I'm wrong.

9. The 25th Amendment DOES cover it when the president's cabinet won't act:

But Congress has to act...

Section 4
Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide[/i], transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

my rational mind warns that any sort of extreme measure enacted to remove a madman president could be used nefariously against any president.

Realistically, it's the only valid option. 25th isn't happening. Senate won't convict.

The best option is the same as it's been all along, and the only realistic solution. A loss, preferably an emphatic one, next fall.

12. Same problem as all the others. Who decides to hold a new election?

It will, of course, be politicians. And that once again brings us full circle to either no action, or abuse of action.

13. There doesn't need to be a new election.

It will be the election already scheduled. The one that happens every four years like clockwork, as it has for more than 200 years.

Trump doesn't have the power to stop the election. The assertion to the contrary that many make is simply ridiculous.

And it can happen again in 2020.

WE NEED ANOTHER WAY TO REMOVE A MADMAN.

Really. Our system of government needs a way to remove a madman. It doesn't exist right now. And it is fucking America and the world so, so badly.

But, under the circumstances, since Republicans were in control of the House and Senate, there wasn't much more the Democrats could do.
