But he didn't. He chose instead to stay and fight for us, giving up precious, dwindling time with his family and sacrificing possibly years of his life.
Please consider that the next time your tempted to smear all politicians as "congresscritters" who make too much money, don't work hard enough, are cowards and crooks, and deserve whatever disdain we wish to heap on them. Yes, a few of them are despicable, but most of them are decent men and women who love their country and the people in it and want only to serve in the best way they can.
Congressman Cummings gave us his all.

One of the reasons I've been so frustrated with and push back so hard with the "Democrats are too cowardly to impeach" attitudes is that I've known and worked closely with many of these people, including Rep. Cummings, who was my friend, and I know how they pour their hearts and souls into their work. It really disgusts me to see people who don't know a fraction of what they do and haven't come anywhere near close to making the commitments, contributions and sacrifices these Members make second-guess and attack them based on their own ignorance and arrogance.
Elijah Cummings gave us his all - literally - right up to the end. I've known for some time he was ill (although I had no expectation we'd lose him so soon) and I saw how he struggled and fought to continue answering his call to service. And much of that was done while people here accused him and his colleagues of being lazy, weak, stupid, naive and worse.
I hope people will be more thoughtful and discerning in the future.
