Just a thought, but I'm having it more and more frequently. The Republican Party is incredibly fractured. The only thing that seems to hold them together is hatred for Obama and the fact that they aren't in power (and it IS about power). They can't keep their policies coherent; they blurt out individual, poorly thought out revelations that they then have to walk back. In spite of what we like to say here, there are people who call themselves Republican who are appalled at the extremists' ways and just don't know where to go.
Should Mitt Romney win, they will believe they are both right and righteous, and this party of hate will become far more focused in what they will impose on America. And it will be evil.
Should Obama win, they don't even have the unifying factor of trying to keep him from reelection. And if he is dedicated to pushing through things that he has held back on thus far, and results become apparent, then I believe the GOP will have no choice but to fragment further. The party is very sick, and electing President Obama for a second term just might be all it takes to kill it off in its current, virulent form.
And won't that be interesting!
Go Obama!

(5 posts)The GOP as we know it is on it's last gasp - and it is futile.
This election is over. All the RNC did was pull Romney a bit closer but did not put him in the lead. MCCAIN even led for a brief amount of time after his convention!!
After Obama/Biden get their post-convention bump, it is light's out for the GOP - now and forever.
They are on the wrong side of history my friend, and history is moving on.
The election might as well be over. They have NO CHANCE!!!

(9,275 posts)This is their last gasp. Demographics alone will doom them in the future.
I see all my kids' friends--in their 20s-- either not political or very left-leaning.

(1,034 posts)The current candidates are being supported by several billionaires.
(Remember, if a billionaire gives someone a million dollars, its like someone with a thousand dollars giving another $1.00.)
The right is so dis-joined that a natural progression would be to break up or disintegrate. Except for the money.
It is important to know that the Democratic Party could easily split as well... into separate parties based on labor and economic principles.
Bottom line vote Democratic... never, never, never vote for a Republican. If it is a non-partisan race as many local ones are, strive to determine who is a closet right winger and do not vote for them!

(41,999 posts)People with large quantities of cash are conservative in the true sense of the word, and may well hold onto it (post election--til then they're going to pour it like cheap beer at a teaparty wedding) until the fragmentation sorts itself out. 'Least that's my conjecture.
