Tropical Storm Nestor sends heavy rains onto Florida Panhandle
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Heavy rains were spreading over parts of the U.S. Gulf Coast on Friday night as Tropical Storm Nestor approached the Florida Panhandle.
The National Hurricane Center said at 11 p.m. Friday that Nestor was about 140 miles southwest of Panama City. It had top sustained winds of 60 mph and was moving to the northeast at 23 mph.
Forecasters said Nestor will race inland over the Florida Panhandle on Saturday morning and move across parts of the U.S. Southeast over the weekend before moving off the North Carolina coast into the Atlantic by late Sunday.
The Hurricane Center said Nestor could strengthen a little in the coming hours, but is expected to weaken after it moves inland.
A tropical storm warning is in effect from Navarre to Yankeetown in the Florida Panhandle and a storm surge warning extends from Indian Pass to Clearwater Beach, Florida.

(62,444 posts)Both branches of Florida look like panhandles to me. I could never figure out where the rest of the pan is supposed to be.
If you had to pick up the continental US, you'd grab it by New England or Florida, right?
