but canadians didn't trust him. And we see the news in the US. So they were about 5 points apart in the total vote right now. We are lucky. It looks like people on the left and center-left voted strategically.

Updated: total vote update says Liberals and Conservatives are one point apart. With first past the post voting, the winner gets so many more seats: the Liberals 30 more seats than the Conservatives so far.

New update: 33.8% for the Liberals, 33.9% for the Conservatives but the liberals win way more seats.

If they brought Ford out into the open more perhaps the liberals would have won a majority. Let's face it, the conservatives only have a hold in the oil and gas when they do not even realize that it is only the Liberals that have tried to get the pipelines to get their oil to market. The conservatives never did a damn thing for them.

But liberals have LOST many seats, and don’t have enough to form a government without making a deal to get to the needed number of seats.

Patience- while an attempt to form a minority coalition takes place.

23. Polls were dead on...

Hi - long-time lurker and proud Canadian here. Relatively stoked about tonight’s Canadian election - thoughts up here are roughly the same as what’s been expressed in the comments on this thread. Trudeau has had a terrible year but the attack politics and “wanna-be Repub” style of the Conservatives was totally off-setting.

Wanted to point out that the polls before tonight’s election were spot-on... almost down to the percentage. Polls up here aren’t any different from down in the States - they aren’t better run or anything.

Difference is that our elections are still conducted with paper and pencil and leave a paper trail that can be verifiably counted. Very difficult to magically change results to differ from the polls if the elections aren’t being run on mysterious electronic boxes, if you know what I mean.

Granted I’m a Canuck and there’s a lot about Americans I don’t understand.. also I know I’m speaking to the choir here... but the willingness of the USA to sacrifice their election security and remove paper trails from the process has boggled my mind for a really long time...

Anyways - hope you don’t mind my first post being so long... Cheers everyone. It was overall a good result for Canada tonight. Yay!

Wish we had paper and pencil elections. Amazing how you do...and somehow still have results the same night. I’ve been told that is why we need machines. Pencil and paper would just “take too long”

It's coherent and the use of a word like "betterment" give it away.

Since the tone is warm & rather friendly for not being said to a dictator or fellow Con, I'm going to guess it was a Trudeau admirer, perhaps Ivanka, who actually wrote it.
