And as the hearings proceeded Tuesday and Democrats made clear in various vague public comments that Taylors testimony was a trainwreck for the president, Republicans vigorous defenses of the president were nowhere to be found.
Instead, Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio typically a strong defender of the president willing to twist every trivial detail of a proceeding into a vindication for Trump only praised the GOP counsel in the hearings, according to Politicos Kyle Cheney. Cheney described the Republicans in the hearing as tight-lipped. He reported that New York Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin said that Democrats who think Taylors testimony is damning must have missed the previous depositions suggesting that he took the testimony of other witnesses, some of whom were, from all appearances, complicit in Trumps schemes, at face value.

(7,947 posts)1. It's not that he's shocked to hear the testimony that Trump corrupted-
>suggesting that he took the testimony of other witnesses, some of whom were, from all appearances, complicit in Trumps schemes, at face value.
It's that he realizes Trump's a goner, and so is he. He would have gone on defending Trump no matter what.. . but now he's getting an idea it's going to cost him.
Maybe it will be serious enough he'll put on a jacket.

I have dedicated my life to serving US interests at home and abroad in both military and civilian roles. My background and experience are non-partisan and I have been honored to serve under every administration, Republican and Democratic, since 1985.
For 50 years I have served the country, starting as a cadet at West Point, then as an infantry officer for six years, including with the 1y01st Airborne Division in Vietnam; then at the Department of Energy; then as a member of a Senate staff; then at NATO; then with the State Department here and abroad - in Afghanistan, in Iraq, Jerusalem and Ukraine; and more recently, as Executive Vice President of the nonpartisan United States Institute of Peace.
