A man high on PCP-laced marijuana stabbed two neighborhood children in their home while they slept, killing a 6-year-old boy and critically wounding his 12-year-old sister, authorities said.
Osvaldo Rivera was found hiding between a mattress and a bedroom wall on Sunday afternoon inside a Camden apartment and was charged on Monday with murder and attempted murder, said Jason Laughlin, a spokesman for the Camden County prosecutor's office.
The attack was the second recent one in Camden, an impoverished city across the river from Philadelphia, involving a child and a suspect said to be high on PCP and marijuana.
Rivera, 31, was being held in jail awaiting arraignment, which Laughlin said will likely be held on Tuesday. Laughlin didn't know if Rivera had an attorney.

You'd think that people would learn from using PCP but some don't and this is what happens.
RIP to the victims.

(14,177 posts)I believe it should be "Man high on pcp laced pot, killed a boy and stabbed the boy's sister." The headline as it reads seems to link marijuana use to violent crime. Probably not the intention. And most people know marijuana isn't linked to violent crime. Not knocking you for posting this of course. It's just a pet peeve of mine that the news seems to be used to slant people's perceptions and sometimes in subtle ways.
What happened to the children is tragic. Unfortunately very little will be done to address the underlying social issues that make these tragedies all to common. But, the police will crack down on drug users more laws will be passed to keep non violent offenders in jail longer. People will wring their hands. It's just really sad this cycle keeps repeating.

(6,795 posts)They didn't know it was laced with PCP....they were teen-agers.
His friend served 1 1/2 yrs in juvie for assaulting a cop and my bro got lucky and got to come home on probation.
"You'd think that people would learn from using PCP but some don't and this is what happens." My bro and his friend never knowingly smoked PCP and their lives and minds were ruined forever because of the incident. My brother drank himself to death at 35....left 3 kids.....it's sad all around.
I def feel for the 2 victims...but it's not that crystal clear...
