I could go on and on but I've run out of steam (for now).
I just don't understand it. Can anyone explain it to me?

(9,841 posts)Whatever the hated liberal supports, they believe the opposite. The more reasonable we become, the more insane they get. It's not conservative, it's not even reactionary. It's completely perverse.

(62,444 posts)They were both from fabulously wealthy families.
It's not about being "a rich white man". It is about understanding others, and, more importantly, understanding what the "rich white men" like Romney are all about, and why it is harmful to the people of this country.

(3,784 posts)Here's all you need to know about right-wingers: they consider politics a sport; they picked their favorite team, and now all they want is for "their team" to win so they can walk around saying, "We won!"
They vote for the letter R next to the candidate's name and NOTHING else.

(1,372 posts)They're so used to watching things run around in circles that they
naturally got attracted to the Republicans.
Sorry to all you Dem Nascar fans - Obviously you haven't been affected in the same way.

(9,796 posts)Now, you can divide conservatives into two groups: The thinkers and the followers. The thinkers are the ones who come up with these ideas. Mostly, they come from a canine fidelity to whatever the corporate class wants. For the followers, it's tribalism, plain and simple. They picked their side and they're determined that their side should win. They espouse all the views you cite not because they're convinced that they would work but purely because liberals oppose them.

(2,514 posts)his contract on America... every since that year (94) the Republican platform has gotten more conservative, and demanding of party unity... it is now to point where it makes little sense, and is internally inconsistent.. its impossible to advocate these views and maintain any relation to the truth

(32,723 posts)I can.
Rule #1 with Conservatives: Never admit you are wrong.
By extension: All Liberals are wrong.
So, if a Liberal says it's "bad" it must be good. If a Liberal hates someone he must be great. If the Liberals get pissed at something someone says it needs to be repeated for the laughs of watching them scream. If a Liberal says something is stupid it must be brilliant.
Get it now?

(12,008 posts)"- dont want 30 million more people to have healthcare." - No, they just don't care if anyone other than them has healthcare, and they don't want a single dime of "their" money going to give others healthcare.
"-want an Insurance Company CEO to decide when they can see a doctor and what kind of treatment they can have." - Again, they just don't care about the health and well being of others. They're rich enough to see any doctor they want almost whenever they want.
"-think only white people have the right to be President." - Duh! Actually, those in power don't really think this. They don't care about someone else's race at all, because someone else isn't them. What they do care about is keeping the poor divided, and if spreading racism will keep the poor from uniting against them, it's worth it.
"-want a rich white man, who hasnt a clue of what it is like to be poor or even middle class, to be President." - Of course they do. One thing I'd point out here, however, is that you thinking there is a middle class in the US is a tremendous victory for their propaganda machine.
"-want a President who was a pioneer of outsourcing." - Duh. Profit = good.
"-want a President who thinks his wealth and tax returns should be secret." Well, yeah. They also want the details of their wealth to be secret.
"-want a President who will not reveal the sources of his campaign funds." - see above.
"-want to hamstring unions and pass right-to-work-for-less laws in every State." They want to destroy all unions. Unions = less profit.
"-think gun ownership is a more fundamental right than voting." - No, they just don't give a shit. What was it Obama said last time? Something like, "these people are so demoralized that they cling to guns and religion." It's like the racism thing. They don't really care about guns, voting, or any rights, for that matter. Guns have just become a good marketing tool for keeping the poor divided.
"-want to continue to subsidize oil companies, an industry already the richest in history, but doesnt want to subsidize clean green sources of energy like wind and solar." - Subsidies for the industries you already own = more profit.
"-want a Vice-President who claims to worship both Ayn Rand (an atheist) and Jesus Christ." - No, they just don't give a shit. He could say that he worships a shoe box, a lamp, and a taxidermic cat, and they'd vote for him if it meant that the poor stay poor which = more profit.
"-want to put grandma on vouchers and cut VA funding for injured veterans." No, they want to completely destroy medicare and the VA.
"-want to cut taxes for people who are already rich AND cut budgets for teachers, firefighters, police officers, libraries, and schools." - Yeah... see basically all of the above.
"-want to believe George W. Bush was a great (but misunderstood) President (if they remember him at all)." - Will remembering him = profit? If not, fuck it. They could care less.
What don't you get?

(1,306 posts)I have always seen the ideologies as dichotomous:
Conservative / Liberal
Exclusion / Inclusion
Shameless / Shame-based
Bullies abusers / Bullied victims
Authoritarian / Authoritative
Projective / Introspective
Aggressive / Passive (as in pacifist)
Yin / Yan
Conformist / Non-conformist
Rigid (black-and-white) / Open-minded (grey)
Resistant to change / Open to change
Homogeneity / Diversity
Legalistic, Moralistic / Humanistic
Concrete (unable to tolerate dissonance) / Abstract
Dominance / Governance
Pharisees / Sadducees
Which group is more likely to accept the differences of the other?
Which group is more likely to fear and despise the differences of the other?
To what type of person does conservatism appeal?
To what type of person does liberalism appeal?
