was a never Trumper? Let's set aside the fact that we already have a handful of eyewitness testimony. The Republicans desire to determine the political affiliation of the first whistle blower is moot for this reason: Our two party system, whether by design or chance, has always been an adversarial system. Just like in a court where you have two lawyers arguing two different sides of the same issue.
The benefit of having an adversarial process is that the facts that one side refuses to acknowledge will be introduced by the other side. The concept is that in the end, the jury or voters will get a full picture.
What we don't have in our political process is a judge stepping in when one side uses underhanded methods in an attempt to confuse or influence the jury. And right now, that's what we have. People on the Republican side are using their influence to attempt to tear down a fair process. They intimidate witnesses and obstruct the process that will allow us a good flow of witnesses. Heck, let's just say it. If Trump had nothing to hide he wouldn't mind having all his inside men appear at the hearings.
Anyway, I think if we hear the term "adversarial process" more often, people will be able to see just how much of what is coming from the Republican side is an attempt to intimidate witnesses and obstruct the process.

You can't smear and intimidate someone who you don't know.

(25,981 posts)That's it in a nutshell. They just want a name, in order to have a specific target for all of their anger and abuse. Propaganda, especially smear propaganda, works best with a focal point for the tar brush.

(11,631 posts)The evidence is piled against them so try to slam the source and call them biased even though mountains of evidence corroborate them. Its just like Mueller's 14 "angry Democrats" and slamming the source of the Steele dossier all over again... when the message condemns you, vilify the messenger...wash rinse repeat.

(82,849 posts)And when the whistleblower's identity is leaked and all their hysterical claims are shown to be hysterical, they'll just move on to another hysterical claim and whine about that. For some reason, the media never tire of chasing after chimeras the Republicans concoct, but they quickly lose interest in real, live actual stories that come out of the investigation and testimony.

(24,412 posts)Plus, they know that their guy is dirty and can't defend him on the substance, so they're spending vast amounts of time attacking the credibility of the witnesses against him, the process, and everything else, totally unrelated to the actual charges. It's character assassination, plain and simple.

(11,885 posts)Being used to go against witnesses, whistle blowers, and anyone who opposes him , or might expose corruption , and criminal activities. He does this to try and prevent others from coming out. He's done this against women he's been accused of raping , sexually assaulting , or the 13 year old girl that said he raped her. Everyone is corrupt, a liar,he often claims , but never him. That's a very common tactic used by con men, and criminals, they are the victims, and claim the opposite of the truth when they know its getting closer to exposing them.
