At this point the Whistlerblower is as important as the Security Guard at Watergate.

He was just the ignition light for a larger conspiracy. His identity, and even his original memo no longer matter.
We have moved well beyond him.
But Trump's obsession shows both his vindictive nature and his complete lack of a grasp on what is mounting against him.

Of course it makes no sense to focus on the security guard who discovered the Watergate burglars (actually we can thank Forrest Gump for that), or the whistleblower who first brought attention to Trump's Ukraine/Biden scheme. But, then, nothing Trump does or says makes much sense anyway.

to his addled mind, if he can expose and somehow discredit the whistleblower. Everything after doesn't count.
It's the way he thinks only people who support him are unbiased and credible.

one of the few people who knew Nixon had a secret taping system and who finally spilled the beans during the Watergate hearings. Chances are Nixon wouldn't have wound up on the verge of impeachment and conviction if it hadn't been for Butterfield's testimony.
