Announced on MSNBC just now....he is expected to file as a candidate in AL primary. Can't find it when I Google it. Everything I see is about him deciding NOT to run last Spring. Has anyone else heard about this?

(29,322 posts)I worry about a third party run from him more than any candidate especially if the nominee is Bernie or Warren.

(54,433 posts)If not, we'll be in the curious position of seeing a real billionaire who held office as a Republican run as a Democrat against a Republican fake billionaire who once was a Democrat. 21st century version of Alice in Wonderland. "Curiouser and curiouser."

I hope to be able to vote for a Democrat, not just a candidate who decides a (D) after their name looks good this week.

I don't mind Bloomberg...especially when considering all the other options.

Bloombergs 'stop-and-frisk' legacy would complicate presidential bid
NEW YORK Mike Bloombergs tortured history with stop-and-frisk policing is shaping up to be a hurdle as he flirts with a potential presidential run as a Democrat.
While often touted as contributing to a precipitous drop in crime in New York City, the controversial policy that Bloomberg presided over during his time as mayor disproportionately affected black and Latino men and is widely condemned in liberal circles as a civil rights violation.
So even though Bloomberg poured millions of dollars into helping Democrats retake the House this year, he could face a backlash from progressives looking to make racial justice issues a centerpiece of the 2020 primary fight, should he decide to run as a Democrat.
"When you couple [stop-and-frisk] with him being out of step with where the party increasingly is on things like taxes, universal healthcare and financial regulation, along with a more progressive base of the party having a louder voice, it creates challenges and obstacles he frankly didnt have to navigate in his mayoralty," says Neal Kwatra, a Democratic operative who has worked on the campaigns of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

I can't vote for stop and frisk mayors which is why O'Malley wasn't a consideration.
FBI breaks down why stop & frisk is bad policy as well as unconstitutional policing. You end up stopping & frisking 95%+ of innocent people.

(29,322 posts)You can't expect to beat Trump on criminal justice issues if our candidate is also bad on criminal justice issues. That is part of why Kamala Harris is falling like a brick in the polls.

Tremendous supporter of sensible gun reform laws, the environment, keeping kids safe from new nicotine products, etc. Incredibly progressive, articulate and intelligent. Check him out before you pass judgement on just another billionaire . FYI- no relation and certainly no connection to his just announced campaign. But my husband husband of 42 years ( mostly Republican) would vote for Mayor Mike in a flash. Thanks for listening! Peace, Hannah

(15,289 posts)thinking he'll just swoop in and "save" Democrats from themselves. IMHO, this is a result of Warren's surge in the polls. She is to the centrists who only want incremental, if any, change as Amazon is to brick and mortar retail.

(20,002 posts)Maybe he's so arrogant he believes his money can buy him anything including the Dem nomination and the Oval Office. Kinda like Dumpy. Agree it's a reaction to the anti-inequality proposals of Warren and Sanders, trying to protect himself and the moneygrubbing 1% from paying higher taxes they won't even feel.
DeminPennswoods
(15,289 posts)who have and are benefitting from a capitalist system that's gotten tilted too far in their favor see the barbarians at the gate in the progressive policy platforms offered by the Warren/Sanders wing. They should be worried, too, because the idea of the rich paying their fair share in taxes and other ideas are pretty darn popular with the 99%.
