Apparently, some would welcome the chance to ruin the lives of themselves and their families, if not actually risk their lives, just to add a little more testimony to the huge pile of evidence implicating 45.
It's one of those "Well, if I were in that situation, here's what I would do" things, when they know perfectly well there's not the slightest chance their bluff will ever be called.

(14,985 posts)At least Peter Parker never consented to being bitten by the spider. That much, at least, would provide him an out in regards to Uncle Ben's supposed words of wisdom.
Nobody finds themselves in intimate professional contact with the POTUS by accident. They at minimum accepted, at maximum doggedly pursued, the positions that they were in when they became privy to criminal behavior and/or betrayals of oaths of office. They have been hoisted by their own petard, in that sense, and brought upon themselves a terrible duty.
Could I uphold this grave responsibility in such a circumstance? I don't know, tbh. I really do not. But I would make damned sure I could answer that question in the affirmative before I would ever pursue or accept that kind of responsibility. If I were not sure, I would not accept the burden of being in that position.

(5,420 posts)It's a bunch of people saying 'I feel powerless. This is what I would do, if I could.'
Born out of frustration, helpless frustration in the face of a terrible thing.

(53,975 posts)There are a variety of topics to which this would apply. It is human nature; annoying at times, but true. Just recently, I had two people pontificate on how they would be "out" (openly gay), though both are straight. Then there are the historical examples...never would have owned slaves, would have never got in the train car, would have been friends with this minority or that, and so on. Much of it is wishful thinking, some of it is delusional, and some is just plain ignorance; just see it for what it is; fantasy.

(16,869 posts)I can attest to that personally every time I look at my family history. My grandfathers grandfather was a Methodist minister and abolitionist who helped ferry runaway slaves across the TN border into KY. On a different side of the family, we owned slaves. Now I'd love to say that if I were in their shoes I would side with the more heroic version of my families past, but I have no way of really knowing that because I'm viewing things through my own lens and worldview. I can say I hope I would make a heroic stand, but I have no way of knowing that I would do so.

(16,616 posts)If so, I am in complete agreement. I don't believe this person is a coward. I'm glad she (probably she) stayed where she did as long as she did and reported on it. She won't be anonymous much longer anyway. If it is in fact the person being rumored, even though I'm no fan, there was sympathetic reporting on her in the NYT and WaPo leading up to her resignation. The fact is she was conflicted.
