Wow, maybe there is still hope-Washington Examiner columnist: "I am sickened to be a Republican"

Not a single person my age has a longer record of being affiliated with the Republican Party. Since birth. My dad was on the RNC. I was YR state chair. I worked for a GOP Approps Chair. Today, tho, I am sickened to be a Republican. DC GOP=rank dishonesty, hypocrisy.

But once it became clear - early on - that it was Putin that was behind it, and Republicans were benefiting, the GOP picked up Putin's ball and ran with it. They became co-conspirators instead of victims.

Russians didn't launch the Southern Strategy.

Putin didn't have Reagan launch his campaign with a speech about "states rights" in a place best known for the murder of civil rights workers.

Putin didn't put Rush Limbaugh on the air, nor make Newt Gingrich Speaker of the House.

Putin didn't make millions of people grind axes about, y'know, those people.

Putin didn't make George W. Bush treat a razor-thin election with clear signs of interference (by Republicans) like Daffy Duck at the genie's treasure ("MINE MINE MINE! GO GO GO! MINE MINE MINE!).

Vladimir Putin didn't whip up war fever over false pretenses just to launch a neoconservative pet project.

The GOP was the first victim of intransigent, compromise-loathing, brazen norm-breaking Movement Conservatives. Putin saw their success and decided to make it work for him instead. And, honestly, this sort of conservative have always been comfy with fascists, dictators, and banana republics. Their goals aren't all that far apart.

JHB, I like hearing your voice. I’m journaling to return to this over the next few days. And I find it extra thought-provoking next to BuffaloJackalope’s comment of republicans as victims of putin’s propaganda.

(Am looking for a way to give everyday conservatives who are cooling to tRump an out for having supported him. This as Thanksgiving approaches, fraught with questions of whether this uncle or cousin will speak to me or even make eye contact. It’s not those two that I care to sway in any way, but is an indicator of how bad things have become in my extended purple family.)

My roommate who passed away last December at age 88 years was a life long Repubbie until 2016. He backed Bernie. Hated Trump. Changed his reg from R to D. So, IMO, there is hope that others will see the truth.

Unless enough goper Senators feel pressure from their constituents to remove tRump nothing will happen except for a bit of righteous indignation on our part. The ONLY thing that will force goper Senators to vote to remove tRump will be a well founded fear of losing their seat.
