been investigating Trump since 2015. They are talking Steele dossier. They just published a book. They were shocked when Trump picked Manafort for his chair because he already had so much dirt on him.
Edited to add link to great New Yorker article about the book :
"The Inside Story of Christopher Steeles Trump Dossier"
You will want to read this article. Lots of good info i hadn't heard before!

(13,360 posts)I am definitely getting this book.... putting it on the C-Mas list for me and the nerdy-political daughter ...
(She's been following this and Hong Kong, and more....she is only 17 but is planning to become a Senator someday. )

(6,797 posts)that REPUBLICANS started investigating Trump first. IMO this is important and should be brought up every time republicans bring up the dossier.

(808 posts)It drives me crazy that nobody ever talks about this! The following is from TWO FREAKING YEARS AGO!
"The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative site based in Washington, D.C., confirmed that it hired the firm Fusion GPS to unearth damaging information about President Donald Trump in the run-up to the election."
"A key financial backer of Free Beacon is Paul Singer, a billionaire New York investor who is among the country's most active Republican donors. Since 2012, Singer has given more than 40 million dollars to Republican and conservative candidates for federal office, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Recipients included Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, who competed with Trump for the Republican nomination."

(6,521 posts)I read the Judiciary interview of Simpson last year. It is available on line to read, and it is very interesting. This interview was voluntary but with restrictions in order to protect people that Fusion deemed vulnerable. They had their lawyer head off some stuff throughout the testimony.
If you put Fusion GPS into Google and click on The Daily Beast link, you can read this 312-page interview at the end of the article.
When I brought this up to another forum last year, no one was much interested in it. I thought it was a remarkable document because somewhere in the pages it came to light that Fusion itself became alarmed and actually attempted to notify the FBI about stuff, but nothing was done about it, or so it seemed.
There are a lot of familiar names in the document. Because the document is so long, I think a lot of people don't care about it, but it is well worth the read. As I recall, Fusion refused to give up the name of the Repub that originally requested their investigation, but everything else is revealed pretty much. The Steele dossier was definitely initiated in the Repub camp.

I was shocked as well once I heard he managed Yanukovitch's campaign. How baldfaced can you be?
And Repukes just shrugged it off. Rubes.
