It's truly disgusting that Zelensky is worshipping at the altar of Trump Toad

And it makes no sense, as any idiot would know that Congress would keep his military funding intact especially and, indeed in light of, this huge scandal. Also, Zelensky could have forced Toad's resignation if he had told the unvarnished truth at that UN presser in September. Toad being upset would not have mattered in the least. Always thought that he was a toad/Putin loving MAGAT. His behaviour and his government's behaviour since Toad was busted has been nothing short of disgusting and vomit inducing. He is clearly a Putin crony just like the WH Toad. I wonder if he has a fascist ideology as well. He fits right in with his KGOP Comrades. He seems to relish covering up for Toad just like them.

His country is in a survival war with Russia, and Trump is still President of the United States. If he pisses off Trump, he can still make him pay for it. He can't admit to his people that he was going to accept a bribe. That is what he was being forced to do to save his own country if the whistle blower hadn't come forward.

directed "disgust" and accusations?

I think you're being extremely unjustified and inappropriately insulting to Zelensky, who must protect his nation. The only people who would agree in view of the facts we have available are Russian assets.

More, what on earth is behind imagining that McConnell and Pelosi would take the same tack toward Trump/Russia if Trump betrayed his nation and ally once again? They haven't before.

McConnell's actions are serving Russia's ambitions and betraying both our ally Ukraine's and our own security interests.

In contrast, ALL of Pelosi's statements and actions promise to make the fears of Russia's criminal oligarchs that they vastly overreached in attacking us come true. I can't wait for that day. None of them want to spend their lives forced to keep their assets and themselves in backwards, pissant Russia.

… of the POTUS (and, as such, the US gov’t writ large), and they make it clear that ‘this is the way things are always done’, why would you ‘know that Congress would keep your military funding intact’?

Why would you trust anyone to have your back, when you’ve been shown that ‘you wash our back, we’ll wash yours’ is how things work?

You’ve just been elected, your nation is at war with Russia, and your fellow citizens are dying. You are desperate to have US support. Do you really want to jeopardize your country’s survival by pissing-off the man who withheld that support once – and would do it again? Do you really want to take the chance that ‘Trump would resign’ if you spoke up – or that he’d just bullshit his way through it (as usual), get away with yet another crime (as usual) – and then be re-elected, giving him the power to kick your country’s ass even harder as a result of having spoken against him?

Why would Zelensky believe that Pelosi – or McConnell, for fuck’s sake! – would protect him? Why would he not think that all US politicians, regardless of party, might be just as entangled in corruption as the Trump administration?

To put it bluntly, your whole OP smacks of promoting anti-Zelensky bullshit. I’m not saying it’s intentional, but it sure comes off that way.

On Zelenskyy's side:

Ukraine when the Republicans control the senate and WH. If we could have, we would have stopped Trump and forced McConnell to do his duty immediately. Zelensky's also not stupid, and whatever he needs explained to him about us is why heads of state are surrounded by very impressive advisers.

Zelensky may not know whether he is going to have support or NOT have support from the US going forward. Russia continues to encroach on the Ukraine's borders. Until drumpf et al is removed from office, there will be only further uncertainty as to US support for the Ukraine. Zelensky only cares about savings the Ukraine from a Russian takeover and likely will say and do whatever is necessary to maintain US support.

What is President Zelensky to do? He's trying to save his country and his people from the might of Russia. Putin has every intention of reconstituting the former USSR's might as an empire, and Crimea is but the beginning.

America -- that is, previous to Trump -- promised aid to a struggling young democracy. Our Congress has the power of the purse, not our President -- yet Trump overruled Congress' appropriations and broke America's word.

Protecting Ukraine protects the EU and in turn protects America.

So President Z is in desperate straits. His choice is to lose his entire country to Putin or to kiss Trump's orange butt -- and by this time knows Trump could still betray him.

Like I said, I pity the man.

Claiming he is corrupt , and use it to get people against him, with or without facts as we've seen both trump and putin do to others. They'll both manufacture false things to use against him, and he is well aware of that. Trump can manipulate things to further weaken Ukraine, and their defenses for putin to use.

No matter what Zelensky does, what he says, whose ass he decides to kiss, in the end it won't matter!!! Putin wants Ukraine back in the Russian fold...and he'll get exactly what he wants!!!

It's just a matter of time before Trump and the Republicans give in to Putin...and then it won't matter what Zelensky tried to do for his people...because he'll be shipped off to Siberia and Yushchenko will be installed as President of Ukraine...because that's what Putin desires and Trump is more then willing to present it to him!!!!

31. I keep expecting Putin to just take the western shore of the Azur Sea
Tue Dec 3, 2019, 06:29 PM

to have an easy land route to Crimea, as well as make the Sea just another Russian lake.

He's all set up to do it. He's taken military control of the mouth of the Azur Sea into the Black Sea. His mercenary army in Donesk would protect the west flank of such a move. And he can use his "some russophones live there" pretense there, too. (An excuse Spain could use to invade Mexico, or France Quebec, or England America.)

Fear of more sanctions must be the only thing stopping him.

I'm sure he's very unhappy about his Oval Office stooge's failure to lift the Obama sanctions, other than those Moscow Mitch got lifted.

30. Ukraine will need another $400M in help in Summer 2020, too.

It's an existential need. Without it Ukraine may well become a client state of Moscow, again. Be forced to turn away from Western style liberal democracy and revert to the Belarus-style Russian-satellite autocracy Putin is trying to re-impose in Ukraine.

With those stakes, would you gamble that Trump isn't going to still be control of the needed aid 9 months from now?

Zelensky can't. He has to continue to kiss our Mobster-In-Chief's ring, for now.
