Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWell, these are some interesting poll questions...
I just finished a political poll and it's a little concerning that the following items are on the survey:
The question is about whether the respondent supports or how appropriate are the following
-We should suspend Congress for a few years so a strong leader can clean up the mess made by politicians in Washington.
-The government should suspend Americans rights until the situation is under control in the case of another terrorist attack in the US like September 11th
POTUS should be able to suspend laws previously passed by Congress and enact new laws that the President believes the country needs if the Congress cannot agree to act on important issues:
Trump should ignore laws & the Constitution if:
-A large majority of the American people believe that President Trump should act
-He has sought a compromise with Congress but the other party is playing partisan games.
- USA is facing an immediate military threat.
-He knows it is the right thing to do for the American people.
In some countries, military leaders have suspended elections, closed down the legislature, and temporarily taken charge of the government in order to address extreme corruption. What would be your view if the military took these steps in the United States?
What if the Republicans win the 2020 presidential election? How much do you feel violence would be justified then?
Edit to note:
The poll is from this organization. I'm a panel member and regularly participate.

(9,760 posts)I've been saying since before Trump was elected just how dangerous I thought he was, only to have people tell me to stop overreacting. Nothing I said or thought about him has proven to have been worse then he is turning out to be.

(14,961 posts)that was a huge fear on election night and the first year.

(102,236 posts)I would then have likely followed up with a political reporter at local tv station or newspaper to see if they could investigate who this firm was representing... Then I'd surely forward it on to TRMS, Lawrence, or Chris Hayes. to see if they would take the story and run with it.
Someone is paying them to poll on these questions and I'd sure as hell like to know WHO?

(9,760 posts)I'd definitely like to know who's sponsoring this particular poll. Though, it's not always an outside group. They sometimes do their own surveys, as well.

(16,254 posts)Those are bizarre questions and I'd be highly suspicious of it...which, I guess, I am.

(102,236 posts)Honestly... aren't you upset at the implications? Seeding these questions as though the premise was "normal?!"
Dark n Stormy Knight
(9,760 posts)Usually they are obviously ideas held by certain groups. These are particularly disturbing, because of that.

(9,760 posts)I don't see them seeding the question as if normal. I am concerned that they must have reason to think some feel this way.

(9,760 posts)I don't like to name the polling firm, as I agreed not to disclose poll questions, but I feel these questions significant & concerning to break my vow, anonymously, though.

(34,136 posts)I suspect this particular poll was one they were hired to do. Not cool.
I'll PM you the domain info URL.

(34,136 posts)Without knowing who created those questions - or were they possible choices - I would refuse to answer that poll. I would ask why they are supporting overthrowing the US Constitution and the way the USA has always changed government when we don't like it.
I've done that sort of thing on other push polls, where questions and listed answers do not fit my views. Pretty much I invalidate their use of my responses since I will not fall into the trap of accepting their canned answers.

(9,760 posts)But, rather than refuse to answer, I prefer to express my opinion that I absolutely strongly disagree with these ideas.

(9,760 posts)and why they thought these questions were worthwhile, it could mean more or less.
There is always a wait for them publish the results and there's no specific notification sent, but you can check on their site. I'll keep an eye out to see if they publish the results of this one.

(34,136 posts)I just run the poor pollster around in circles debating the validity of their supplied answers. Of course, I am talking about telephone polls. I am polite about it and earnest about "wanting" to give them an answer. I just won't jump at their supplied answer that is closest to my own views if it would still be slanted by the way it is written.
I tend to not do online polls since they by definition are not statistically valid. But I love doing telephone polls since my answers tend to skew the results.
Dark n Stormy Knight
(9,760 posts)They're not random internet polls. They send invitations to panel members, but, it seems, have criteria for choosing a statistically significant group of respondents.
Let me know if you find any more about them.
I an't recall the last time I was called about a poll. But then, I don't usually answer my phone!
csziggy
(34,136 posts)So I had to answer it all the time.
Now, for various reasons, I still have to answer it since it might be business or health care related. You'd be surprised which companies will not leave a message even if their call is for legitimate business reasons.

(18,312 posts)They were quite interesting...normally they are not so pointed, I have to say. Do you get their daily questions that they send to your cell phone? Those are interesting as well.
Dark n Stormy Knight
(9,760 posts)Occasionally I'll go to the site and answer some of those questions.

(18,312 posts)I cash in for gift cards and stuff like that. It's always interesting. But you are right, these were definitely some of the most....interesting questions I've come across since the Bush years.
