Democrat says he expects to oppose articles of impeachment against Trump
By Cristina Marcos - 12/06/19 12:57 PM EST
Freshman Rep. Jefferson Van Drew (D-N.J.) said Friday that he expects to oppose articles of impeachment against President Trump, dismissing a push from Democrats in his district to side with the party.
Van Drew represents a district that had long been held by the GOP until his election in 2018. He was one of only two Democrats to break party lines in late October and vote against a resolution establishing procedures for the public phase of the impeachment inquiry.
Van Drew said that the weeks since then which have featured several public hearings with witnesses to Trump's dealings with Ukraine and constitutional experts haven't changed his position that impeachment isn't warranted.
"I'll look at new information that's presented. I'll always have an open mind. But where I am now is where I was before," Van Drew told The Hill.
Van Drew's position is already drawing ire from Democrats in his district and may lead to a primary challenge next year.

(13,584 posts)campaign ads. Walt Minnick D-ID. He got blown out. Dumbshit. That didn't get him one vote. Republicans won't vote for a democrat that tries to look republican. They would much rather have a real republican, if only to get one seat closer to controlling the House.

(31,823 posts)It's very um - 'hillbilly' down there. I feel bad for progressives/liberals/Democratic Party members in that area. Look at the eight counties, go to the SPLC web site, and go from there. He won it from Frank LoBiondo.
I'm probably in the second reddest district - the 7th. But it's more purple since Malinowksi kicked Leonard Lance's ass last year.

(1,249 posts)Maybe they were elected precisely because Democrats turned out to vote, so that Trump might be impeached!
I seriously doubt he was elected by Republican support.
Sounds like he's come up with the perfect way to suppress rhe democratic vote.
