I have been without a refrigerator on and off since Oct. A new fridge under warranty keeps going out. After the 6th service call I asked them to replace it. They said no I still have to wait 2 weeks for yet another new part.
So, I filed a complaint with FTC for violation of the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. I was wondering if anyone else has done this and if so, what to expect?

(51,590 posts)I always wanted to know why it wasn't spelled refrigerator with a "d" so I Googled it.
"What is the difference between fridge and refrigerator? ... The temperature of fridge is more than that of refrigerator. Refrigerator can freeze water but fridge cannot. Fridge is used to keep eatable items whereas refrigerator is used for making ice keeping ice creams and other materials which need less temperature."

(29,557 posts)you will see people saying they are the same thing. I think those people are right and "fridge" is a contraction of the brand name Frigidaire, which was used generically to refer to any refrigerator back in the early part of the last century, per my personal experience and the Wikipedia article on Frigidaire.

(51,590 posts)but that didn't make sense to me since it is also spelled without a "d" and so is the word frigid, so where in the Hell did a "d" come from in the first place? That is why I could never spell it in the past. A slang contraction is something I can understand and I now I will be more likely to remember the correct spelling. Thanks!

(38,958 posts)with the State Attorney General and any other regulatory agency that you can find that may have some jurisdiction. This type of behavior is completely unacceptable.
I would also contact the Retailer that sold you the unit and post something to their social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, etc) as many companies guard those social media reputations jealousy to the point of having a third party company monitor their pages for particular words and/or word groupings.
Light a Fire under their backside and good luck!

(12,265 posts)We tried everything to get relief. Ended up junking it and buying a new one. GE is the worst company to work with on a warranty issue. Our washer saw the first repair after 3 months, then again at 4 and 6 after that it was cheaper to get a new one. Obviously not a GE, there will NEVER be another GE appliance in this house again.

(3,579 posts)I was part of a similar prolonged situation with a different company. This is what they do.
Worse, in our case, the service technicians they sent said the temperature measured OK when it simply did not and we could prove it.
Our state attorney general's office was no real help.
I realize you're not asking for advice, but... if you can get an attorney to write them a letter with the intent of litigating, they will likely refund your purchase price. That's far cheaper for them than sending someone to show up in a courtroom somewhere. But it'll cost you attorney's fees.
You might try small claims. If you've kept records of all those service visits, almost any judge will sympathize with you, what with technicians coming in excess of six times. And again, the company likely won't even send someone to show up.
And have you lost any food because of the bad refrigerator? If so, you should be compensated for that as well.
I'm interested in knowing if anything comes from the FTC avenue.
Our experience with the attorney general's office was that the company just responds with "nope, it's a repair warranty, not a replacement warranty" multiple times.
Good luck to you.

Good luck.
