Deputy Sheriff Decries Romney’s Plan To Cut First Responder Money

After sharing a personal story of a standoff at gunpoint last spring, Ken Myers, deputy sheriff of Carroll County, Iowa, railed against Mitt Romney's plan to cut resources for public employees, including first responders, during his speech Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention.

"That funding, it helps pay for the officers who heeded my call for backup last spring—and for their training," Myers said. "It helps pay for the fire and EMS vehicles that responded to the scene and it helps pay for the bulletproof vest that—if, God forbid, I was shot that night—could have saved my life."
