the ethno-nationalism is about anti-immigration in the face of climate change

all imho, of course

the GOP comes across as the party of climate-denialism which is no surprise. however, when considering that many in the pentagon consider climate change to be a significant threat due -- at least -- to population displacement, i'm inclined to think their denialism consists mainly of shallow roots tapped into propping up short-term profits for the automotive and fossil fuel industries. what underlies this facade? where is the real aquifer?

climate change will reduce already-stressed planetary carrying capacity for humans. this will certainly lead to mass migrations globally. so are we to believe that people neck deep in the energy industry already are ignorant of this possibility?

that seems unlikely to me.

so how does one of vast wealth and means secure their riches generationally? they've been taking those steps steadily since the 1980s. now taxes on generational wealth are low-to-nonexistent, and if you need further reductions, there are tax havens around the world primed to accommodate you. but what next? this is likely insufficient in the face of massive, fluid population transfers which can strongly affect the attitudes of nominally-democratic governments. so you need to restrict such things. federations and international unions which enable the free flow of humans endanger disproportionate accumulations of wealth.

which brings us to today. UK just voted for a government primed to exit the EU. many note that this is because of what a douche Corbyn is, and a generally poor campaign from Labour. checking through some message boards i happen to notice that there's another theme active: anti-immigration. common theme in the USA too - just saw a story yesterday about how some conservative fuckwit called out AOC's district as "filthy" because it's "un-American", full of immigrants. and keep an eye on how the "Jews are a nation" thing evolves.

the world is currently drifting toward fascism. make no mistake. one thing they can do really effectively with a fascist government is restrict the flow of humans from place to place. if they decide that there are too many of a kind of humans in one place, fascism is exactly the kind of governance that enables a "final solution" so to speak. and with significant adaptive pressure from climate change, there will be strong desire in many to reduce global population by a noticeable amount - not thousands, not millions. billions. look around, you'll begin to see "strong economy" rhetoric intermingling with "filthy immigrant" hate speech.

a storm is coming.
