seems the whole world is on fire

We in the past could count on honesty and decency to make things right.

Not any more.

It is a sad state of affairs that we have to fight for honesty now.

I never imagined we would be here now.

My father, a soldier during the Korean Conflict, a strong machinist union man for 45 years would be appalled at the state of affairs now. He never swore much. I heard him twice. Once when he was working on a car and smashed his thumb (I was under 10) and he said dammit. The other time was when I was studying history in college and he called Nixon a son of a bitch but then said he tried to do right. As much as I miss he and my mom, I am glad they are not here to see how far the USA has lowered itself

He would be ashamed of the USA he fought for protecting #fatdonnie today.

My mother lost two brothers fighting Nazis in WWII. They would hate us now.

Withdrawal of our soft power is releasing all sorts of forces, some not for the good of the world.

South America, India, Lebanon, Iraq, Hong Kong...and on and on.

Pandora’s box is now open.

the second world war. Imagine how horrific it was for people who lived through it, and those who didn't make it through.

So there have been worse times, but it does feel like things are heating up.

5. The worst among us wouldn't have dared set the USA on fire 40-50 years ago.

That's because the people who killed fascists in World War II would have laid out our homegrown jackboots and Russian collaborators and dared them to get back up for another whoopin'. In the 1970s and 1980s, World War II veterans were in their 50s and 60s, many still in good health, and they were a significant portion of our population. However, the weasels among us bided their time and waited until the old soldiers faded away. Many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of World War II veterans tossed aside their moral compasses and became the very same enemies Americans fought against so long ago.

The shades of those old soldiers must look upon their descendants with tremendous disappointment and remark, "We can't believe we put our lives on the line for you sorry pieces of shit."

I’ve thought a lot about this. Growing up in the 1950’s and 60’s, this country was governed by those who lived through the Great Depression and WWII. We had the finest journalist, news reporters, writers and thinkers. They’re all gone now.

Also glad my parents didn’t live long enough to see this. Today is the 10th anniversary of my father’s passing and he’d die all over again if he knew who was president.

I’m sad tonight 😞.

I buried my dad on Christmas Eve in 2012, and like your father, mine would be aghast to learn who sits in the White House and how he got there.

From me to you,

6. We cannot be ashamed of the USA, we have to be ashamed of our republican politicians
Sun Dec 15, 2019, 12:48 AM

There are more good people than bad people, unfortunately the bad people seem to be very good at getting into office, specifically in the republican party, but we cannot be ashamed of the USA, and when we get rid of the creature and his minions we will understand why we need to be proud of this country at all times.

People in government do shitty stuff all the time, we don't give mental tests to people who run for office, we even allow people who were incarcerated or indicted or proven to have committed fraud to run for office, and I don't mean the creature only, there are plenty of politicians out there who have even served time in jail and are now running for office, and that one I don't agree with. but we are able to get rid of them eventually and I don't think it is going to be different this time around.

We just need to let our Democratic officials know they need to be a few steps ahead of the crooks, to be vigilant, to make sure that what happened in 2016 doesn't happen again, that we protect our votes, and when Democrats get in office that major penalties are put on Facebook for helping the crooks with their disinformation.

Lets be proud, lets all work to getting the crooks out of office, and hopefully we can kick the creature out of office in January, regardless of what Moscow-Mitch said.

Putin

He/they have been playing a long term game ever since the Berlin Wall fell, and the USSR dissolved.

He wants revenge, and he is getting it. It did NOT all happen in the last three years.

Too bad our hackers aren't near as smart or patriotic, or our government officials nearly as dedicated...

Our corporations are looking only at the bottom line, and our government has been bought and paid for BY the corporations.

They don't care about 10 years from now, just the next quarterly report. And they have brainwashed the American stock holders into thinking in the same time frame.

Bigly sad.

and then pocket vetoed the Fairness Doctrine, we've had decades of the corporate drum beat.

WE always have to be rugged individualists, mistrusting, fearing, even hating each other. We have to be jealous of ANY of our tax dollars ever going to help anyone less fortunate. We have to acquiesce to a government that won't give us healthcare because of big pharma and health insurance lobbies. We are destroying the earth for the sake of profits when we could be developing carbon-free alternatives. Our children and now grandchildren are fighting in a forever war. This whole generation has never known a time when the US was not at war.

But see, the billionaire parasites - they are socialists. They work together, bail one another out. They let us die so they can have their profits and laugh in their country clubs.

Well enough of that.

The root cause of all this bullshit? Laissez-faire capitalism.
