James Comey, the former director of the FBI who has become a prime nemesis of Donald Trump, admitted on Sunday to being responsible for “real sloppiness” over the handling of surveillance of a Trump campaign adviser.

He also fiercely defended himself and the bureau against any suggestion of political bias, prompting a new threat, of “years in jail”, from Trump.

Comey, who was fired by Trump as America’s top law enforcement official in May 2017, came under intense questioning on Fox News Sunday, sparring with anchor Chris Wallace over the findings of the inspector general’s report into the FBI’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Comey seized on one of Michael Horowitz’s main conclusions, that there was no evidence of political bias in the investigation, to launch an impassioned critique of how he and his FBI colleagues had been treated by Trump.

“The FBI was accused of treason, of illegal spying, of tapping Mr Trump’s wires illegally, of opening an investigation without justification, of being a criminal conspiracy to unseat a president. All that was nonsense.”

Was a foregone conclusion. What they actually found was a back-up file of Clinton email dated before she turned her computer over to the FBI.

What he was really looking for was the 30,000 emails Trump thought Russia could provide. Turns out the "new" email Comey claimed he had was things like Clinton and her aide discussing what they were going to wear to an event both were attending that night. Email she was entitled to delete even though her email account was under subpoena.

Attacking the FBI will only ensure they go after your ass. Nixon was brought down by a pissed off FBI guy. They were all pissed when he appointed a know nothing outsider from the Navy to head the FBI. As LBJ said about the decision to keep the asshole Hoover in charge:"it's better to have him inside the tent pissing out then outside the tent pissing in." I'll wager their are a whole lot of FBI agents that are compiling info right now to put him behind bars when he is removed from office. In my experience the majority of the FBI is Republican leaning, but you don't dis the agency without consequences. I suspect they are a lot more honest than in the days of Hoover when they thought nothing of falsifying evidence and perjury as long as the "perps" were leftist or agitators. Hell, we might even get some D votes out of them in the next election. Being a veteran of the sixties and seventies I would not want to piss them off, ever. If they want to get your ass they can do it. Even if you succeed in court, it will cost you so much time and money it's seldom worth it. Better to cop a plea and do a little time in "camp."
