Barack Obama: Women are better leaders than men
By Saira Asher BBC News, Singapore
If women ran every country in the world there would be a general improvement in living standards and outcomes, former US President Barack Obama has said.
Speaking in Singapore, he said women aren't perfect, but are "indisputably better" than men.
He said most of the problems in the world came from old people, mostly men, holding onto positions of power.
He also spoke about political polarisation and the use of social media to spread falsehoods.
Speaking at a private event on leadership, Mr Obama said while in office he had mused what a world run by women would look like.
"I'm absolutely confident that for two years if every nation on earth was run by women, you would see a significant improvement across the board on just about everything... living standards and outcomes."

(19,240 posts)Women are stronger leaders and are less likely to make decisions based on machismo or emotion. I see it in my professional life, Men seem more likely to shoot from the hip and make decisions without data and are more likely to stick with a failing policy.
Look at the Impeachment hearings, the Republican men in them are yelling and screaming like children, they are unable to control their emotions.

(4,316 posts)I think there are many factors involved. Society generally expects men to be in leadership positions, so women that become leaders may have different early motivations. Women can choose to be subservient if they want, whereas men generally will not choose that role. Women are more rewarded and prized for their beauty and that affects their choices.
I would like to see a woman president in the US. It would be a wonderful step forward.

(118,870 posts)amazing. That's why after the subprime financial crisis hit iceland, where many men had given up fishing jobs to go into finance in the years before because they were all financial 'geniuses' all of a sudden, the women said ENOUGH! and took over government leadership. I like Angela Merkel, Christia Freeland in Canada and Jacinda Ardern. Not so fond of Thatcher. People who put themselves and their rich and powerfull friends before the people in their country are more often men. As are criminals.

(9,902 posts)disagrees totally. Leadership really isn't a matter of gender, it's personality. I've had a few great bosses, women and men. My worst bosses have been two females. Vindictive and nasty. The middle ground has been men and women, each with their own good and not-so-good traits. It's how you use what you've got, not male/female.
