The hackers sent videos and images of flashing strobe lights to thousands of Twitter followers of the Epilepsy Foundation last month in a mass cyberattack that apparently sought to trigger seizures in those with epilepsy, the foundation said on Monday.
The series of online attacks was particularly reprehensible, it said in a statement, because it took place during National Epilepsy Awareness Month.
These attacks are no different than a person carrying a strobe light into a convention of people with epilepsy and seizures, with the intention of inducing seizures and thereby causing significant harm to the participants,

(721 posts)It's just evil.
There are no laws in place to regulate the incredible damage that can be done through the internet. And so many are vulnerable in many different ways.
I really hope no one was hurt by this. And if they were, I hope we hear about it.

I hope the FBI is taking this seriously and investigating this with scrutiny. This is terrorism.

(19,564 posts)I know the common term is "online trolls" but these people are deliberately preying on people with medical conditions, that makes them online predators in my eyes. We need to enhance our online laws to ensure people like these are prosecuted as felons every time they attempt such acts. Not just when they succeed.

The people involved in this attack are felons. This is a dangerous crime.
