How Long Should Pelosi Delay the Senate Trial?

How Long Should Pelosi Delay the Senate Trial?

"SNIP......

Jennifer Rubin has an idea:

“Pelosi can wait to transmit the articles, now that impeachment is complete, until such time as the cases involving senior officials wind their way through the courts and reach a final ruling (likely at the Supreme Court level where cases concerning production of documents now rest). In short, she can wait until the Supreme Court frees up former White House counsel Donald McGahn and former deputy national security adviser Charles Kupperman (whose case Bolton said he would rely upon for guidance) to testify. (If the Senate still won’t call them as witnesses, the House can hold additional hearings and supplement the record.)”

“Faced with a client frantic to get a Senate acquittal, Trump’s attorneys might then have a real incentive to get the courts to expedite a determination on witnesses.”

After all that's transpired, you're questioning Speaker Pelosi's judgment?

Okay. Please share your strategy.

Thank you, in advance.

The constitution keeps a president (impeached or not) from undoing an impeachment (his own or others)... it doesn't keep him from pardoning people from criminal charges.

the very next day Trump made the call to Ukraine and asked for a favor. He thought he was free to commit crimes again.

The same here and now. As long as Nancy holds this impeachment over him and doesn't send it to the Senate - she can keep Trump in check. He'd be stupid if he got caught doing something criminal if he already has 2 articles of impeachment hanging over him.

What he wants is to put this impeachment behind him. He wants to say he was acquitted and exonerated. Once he's able to use that - he'll be off committing more crimes.

As long as impeachment is being held over him - he's got to keep his nose clean. So my vote is to keep this away from the Senate as long as possible - maybe even til the election.

if republicans never agree to holding a fair trial. Then Trump will not be able to claim he was cleared by the senate on the campaign trail. If the House does force the senate into a fair trial the better the chances are that some of those vulnerable republicans in the senate might vote to convict Trump.

regarding not being neutral jurors and the public outrage to show in polls. Speaking as a Coloradoan I bet Gardner will be shaking in his boots and will want the appearance of a "fair" trial. Won't matter though - he won't be reelected.
