Beto O'Rourke: Flipping Texas House 'no longer a fantasy'

Beto O’Rourke on Tuesday pledged to do “anything and everything” to help Texas Democrats gain control of the state House and said the effort would be his primary focus during the 2020 cycle.

O’Rourke’s involvement already has begun in the special election for a traditionally Republican House seat in Fort Bend County, where he was visiting Monday and Tuesday to campaign door-to-door for Democratic candidate Eliz Markowitz.

The district is among the ones Democrats are targeting this cycle, in the hopes of netting nine GOP-held seats and retaking control of the lower chamber. Many of the districts Democrats hope to flip are ones that O’Rourke, a former presidential and U.S. Senate.

O’Rourke’s efforts will include deploying his expansive email list and showing up to various candidates' districts in person. He said he may also endorse his preferred candidate in some Democratic primaries, having already done so in a Dallas House contest. He also recently endorsed one of his former advisers, Sima Ladjevardian, in a Houston congressional race.
