(58,649 posts)The editorial is right (from the excerpts I've seen, I haven't read it), Trump is ruining the Christian brand.
In her book, The March of Folly, Barbara Tuchman spends an entire section explaining how the corruption, venality, and naked greed of the Popes in Medieval Europe led directly to the Protestant Reformation.
As an outsider, I know there are good Christians out there, but the more visible, more vocal ones are destroying the credibility of all. The bullshit prayer vigils in the Oval Office with Trump are ridiculous in the extreme. Rational people don't buy a minute of it. The thought that Trump is in any sense a "good Christian" is ludicrous.

(11,804 posts)His conclusions line up with what I see myself, particularly the eagerness by many effectively trump supporters who want to be bystanders, and the need to defend and excuse the cruelties of Trump and his supporters over the need to protect those who are actually menaced by him and his followers.

I have no idea how many people will follow them, but this is both unexpected and genuine.

The magazine said the president had abused his power and violated the Constitution. Mr. Trump responded by saying he had done more for evangelicals than any other president.

(5,269 posts)Pence's level of corruption and dishonesty seems miniscule compared to Trump. Pence would put on an appearance of Christian humility and civility rather than Trump's lack of contrition and blatant disregard and violation of the Ten Commandments.
