The Good News -- Please Add Yours

While 2020 could be the ugliest, we can bear it because of the good news:

1. Nancy Pelosi

2. Rule of Law

3. Impeachment

4. 34 House Republicans and 4 Senate Republicans have already announced their retirements or left office, a sign that the GOP is not optimistic about taking back power.

“It means that they know they’re gonna lose,” Pelosi declared. “And if you win, you’re going to serve in the minority under a Democratic president. You may want to spend more time with your family.”

5. Democrats have flipped governorships in Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, New Jersey, Illinois, Maine, Wisconsin, Michigan, Virginia, Kentucky

6. Christianity Today

7. Voters can turn over the Senate to a Democratic majority (no electoral college interference). Then the all-Democratic Congress will be hard for any other Branch to cheat or beat.

8. There is NO constitution timeline on a Senate trial, so the next Congress can actually remove 45 no matter how he wins 2020. Once removed, he can and will be indicted.

9. The removed 45 will face at least 10 FBI-SDNY indictments that are more a threat to him today than impeachment and removal. The indictments are what keep him desperate to stay in office while serving as #1 Russian asset.

10. Land doesn't vote. People vote.

There is no bad news. Just distraction, propaganda platforms, drama, social media.

EDIT: 11. Adam Schiff

I have been very impressed and uplifted by his intelligence and eloquence. He is a true and noble statesman who accurately represents us and what we stand for and he consistently demonstrates that.

The contrast he provides to the "other party" is incredibly strong and stark. I am very relieved to have him in our corner and he has my respect and great thanks for his true patriotism and defense of our Constitution. We are very fortunate to have him.

It was almost completely done by the time I scrolled down to see it. Suspecting it contained a population-based map, I loaded it again in another browser and caught the animation.

It is likely that I'm not the only one who has a browser set up to stop endless gif animations, which are everywhere. It might be more effective to have two images: one of the land map that GOPers like to show and one based on population that they like to ignore.

Thanks for your OP!

38. And we all can add ourselves in, for all our activism.
Fri Dec 20, 2019, 01:56 PM
Dec 2019

I personally have found Indivisible to be an outstanding vehicle to channel one’s own activism.

I’ve been part of the “Great Grassroots Group” for decades. Old female Democrat here. But I’ve never seen consistence and strength and focus in active (as opposed to passive) efforting as I’ve witnessed with, and within, Indivisible.

I’ve promoted it here before - which leads me to what must be made clear in case there’s any doubt:

I gain NOTHING financial from Indivisible. I’m not on the take, not getting paid, not part of the Indivisible hierarchy either at the state or national level. I’m a co-leader of our little Research & Writing team that creates the “asks” to send out to members and friends every week, with another woman who’s become a good friend. But that’s it. I’m just a small water molecule in an Olympic-size swimming pool.

But I bring it up when it seems appropriate because I’ve learned from experience that it’s one FUCKING GREAT vehicle for so many of us who feel the call of “so, then we do NOTHING?”

This lets you do SOMETHING. Tools are there. And so is the comradeship. It empowers you to know you’re NOT just sitting there and complaining or getting depressed. This and other worthy groups are there to harness what folks like us are feeling but perhaps aren’t sure what to do about it.

Planned Parenthood
Moms Demand Action
Multiple climate-crisis combatant groups - from the Sierra Club, the Environmental Defense Fund, NRDC, World Wildlife Fund,
AND MORE!
Even local Democratic groups
They’re ALL good and useful and much-needed

But SHIT-DAYUM, I’ve never seen a group as happening as Indivisible. First among equals, I’d say. And the more effective they are, the more they’re regarded as a force to be reckoned with. Their effectiveness begets more of the same. I guess if you could only pick one, that’s the one. Because I serves and fuels all the others.

Fri Dec 20, 2019, 01:38 PM

I got it totally wrong about Pelosi on this, strategically. I assume now she was taking a very small gamble on the good odds of Trump handing us a gift of even more bold and open corruption to move forward on.

While I don't think anything truly significant will come of it, impeachment is on his record, and I think it helps put a cap on his approval/disapproval +/- polling. Election rigging will take more effort, and Trump has been more upset than usual.

Overall, I think it's the best outcome that we could have hoped for at the moment. I also like delaying sending the articles to the Senate, drawing attention to the Senators' openly declaring that they are going to set up a sham trial, and violate their oaths.

Trump's approval rating will tick up a bit with the legislative "wins", but he still has 11 months of future scandals to deal with. His financial records are still out there, and he's an exceptionally unhinged moron.

* One very strong, unifying candidate with impressive qualifications and broad, diverse national support,

* PLUS a field that includes other good choices.

I've said it before, but just imagine these past months without Biden and instead a pool of candidates that hasn't produced a consistent leader with broad, winning support. We'd be worried, those of us who weren't outright scared and appalled by what hostile media were making of it.

As it is, whether Biden is first or second choice, or for a few just a choice, we all know we do have a strong winning candidate to send against Trump, which allows us to consider all options and head into the primaries with confidence that we're in good shape.
