The Pelosi Pause

Pulitzer-winning historian:

Pelosi should block impeachment trial until White House is forced to reveal all

(CNN)Let's call it the Pelosi Pause. There are no written rules governing the timetable for delivery of the House decision impeaching Donald Trump to the Senate, only custom. But then there were no written rules governing the timetable for a Senate decision on Barack Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland, only custom. If Speaker Nancy Pelosi follows Senator Mitch McConnell's playbook, Donald Trump will never stand trial in the Senate.

...Pelosi can stand pat until he caves. If never, so be it. It must be a full and fair trial or nothing.

Common sense says that he is hiding something. So Trump can continue to take the hit for holding back evidence or let them testify. The later would probably be worse, but both options are bad as long as public opinion holds up.

If that's what needs to be done to assure a fair process and trial, so be it. There is nothing to be gained by allowing them to conduct a sham trial. I also think she would be right to insist that Mitch and Lindsey recuse themselves because of public comments they have made that they can not be fair and impartial.

Who needs a trial where he will be "exonerated?"

Yes, leave him, the turtle and the rest of them in limbo.

...look at this like giving a Strike Vote to your Union's Bargaining Committee during Contact negotiations for leverage...

...it's true, the turtle doesn't even want to see the articles of impeachment but mcconnell is sandwiched between Constitutional duty, public opinion, history and appearance...

...Chuck now has a little more leverage and chance to turn trump's impeachment into a legitimate process by bringing forth facts and truth while resisting the republican kangaroo-court...

...maybe...

To be honest, I'm getting tired of this phrase. It just sounds like blah-blah pablum that nobody even hears. I'd rather start casting it as an American-style trial (with evidence and witnesses and stuff) vs. a Soviet-style sham show trial. Hey Moscow Mitch, why not have an American-style trial instead of a Russian-style show trial? Oh, I guess your propensity to love all things Russian and Soviet is why they call you "Moscow Mitch."
