Beware Of Anonymous Republicans 'Concerned' About McConnell's Impeachment Plans
Be skeptical. Be very skeptical of anonymous Republicans who won't stand up, but instead lurk in the background with "concerns."
By Laura Clawson

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has announced that he is “not an impartial juror” and pledged to conduct an impeachment trial of Donald Trump in “total coordination” with the White House. McConnell’s stance has Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski “disturbed,” while reliable eyeroll-generator Sen. Susan Collins said she “hopes” that Senate leaders will negotiate a fair trial process. But what about every other Republican senator?

Some, like Sen. Lindsey Graham, have said they’re with McConnell—not impartial jurors, just here to serve Donald Trump. But there are continuing reports that some cowardly Republicans aren’t happy, even as they stay silent.

Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut says, “I've talked to anywhere from five to 10 of my colleagues who have very severe misgivings about the direction that Mitch McConnell is going in denying a full, fair proceeding with witnesses and documents. My hope is that they will say publicly what Sen. Murkowski did, and really hold Mitch McConnell accountable.”

No credit—none—to these Republicans until the day they come out and actually force McConnell to conduct a fair Senate trial. Until then, they’re just anonymous cowards.

I have no faith or trust in either Murkowski or Collins and truly loathe those women for their lying self-righteousness & hypocricy which almost always fails them when it comes time to vote and truly be counted.

It is nothing but hot blather until we see how they vote. It is nothing but words of appeasement to keep their supporters in line and to draw a bit of media attention.

Bullshit walks.

Professional politicians say what they think people want to hear—they say it for votes to keep their own government jobs.

All that counts is their senate vote, and we all know what their groveling history is.

What is it that they are planning to do to fool everyone. Is this a strategy to make Democrats believe that some of them will do the right thing to later, when the trial begins do what Moscow-Mitch and the con want them to do?

I don't believe anything republicans say or do, they always say or do things to make people believe they are righteous prior to the moment of truth, they put up a show and then when the time comes, they do what their party wants them to do.

Flake and Collins did exactly that during Kavanaugh's hearing, they both put up a show and then when it came time to vote they both voted along party lines. republicans are fake people, they cannot be trusted.

I'm a bit perplexed as to why he said 5 to 10 colleagues with severe misgivings. I would know exactly how many had severe misgivings. If it was 5 to 6 or 9 to 10 it would be understandable. But 5 to 10? I know he's a Democrat but it doesn't change the impression that he's overestimating or picking numbers out of the air which is what ranges like that usually mean. Maybe he's trying to protect them from speculation? In any case I'm not a fan of number tossing. It makes the statement meaningless.

“Concerned” all the way around the block about Kavanaugh until she fell straight into his arms. As expected.

She’s a fucking PHONY. Her “concern” is nothing but a fucking blowjob.

Anybody who trusts Susan Collins to vote the right way is simply fooling themselves. I don’t think she’s reachable. I don’t trust her for a single nanosecond. I think focusing on turning her vote is a waste of time. In her case we should be focusing on finding and electing her replacement.

will vote in lockstep with their party just as they always have since the days of Reagan's eleventh commandment (thou shalt not criticize another Republican), and even earlier to Lee Atwater and Karl Rove, the two genuine skunks in the garden.

We can pretty much dismiss any talk of so-called concerns. They will vote party line. Full stop.

Corrupt. Spineless. Cowards.

What rankles is that this shit is being reported in the MSM as something important. So that when the vote is party line somehow we can all be convinced that it was the result of extensive analysis and considerable thought.

This is bullshit.

Repeat after me.

Corrupt. Spineless. Traitorous. Cowards.

How many more times do we have to listen to the “Concern Lucys” before we realize in the end they will always pull the ball out and vote the party line? No amount of public hand wringing will ever lead to independent thought and action.

They deserve zero credits and we should give zero shits about anything they say. Vote them out, every last one of them.
